Brazil started better than Senegal. In the 11th minute, the five-time World Cup champions opened the scoring. Vinicius crossed from the left wing for Lucas Paqueta to head the ball into the middle of goalkeeper Mory Diaw's goal.

But after the first goal, the African representative played completely differently. Sadio Mane and his teammates pressed fiercely from the midfield, preventing Brazil from advancing. From there, they continuously attacked goalkeeper Ederson's goal. In the 22nd minute, Brazilian midfielder Joelinton headed the ball poorly in the penalty area. Standing in an open position, Habib Diallo volleyed home the equalizer for Senegal.

Senegal continued to play well after the equalizer. Without Casemiro, Brazil almost lost their midfield. If goalkeeper Ederson had not reacted in time, the South American team could have conceded another goal right at the end of the first half.

Brazil's interim coach Mano Menezes made no changes after the break. As a result, Senegal continued to control the game. In the 52nd minute, Marquinhos scored an own goal for Brazil when he blocked a header from the six-yard box. Three minutes later, Mane made it 3-1. The former Liverpool star curled the ball from the left edge of the box, looping it around Ederson's hands and into the top corner.

Stunned by the two quick goals, Brazil pressed forward. They scored a goal in the 58th minute, from a high shot by Marquinhos. However, Senegal's well-organized defense did not give Brazil any more chances. Attacks by Vinicius, Pedro and Rony were all ineffective.

In the 90+7 minute, Ederson fouled Nicolas Jackson in the Brazilian penalty area. Mane scored a penalty to complete his double and seal a 4-2 victory for Senegal.

After the match, Goal gave the lowest score of the match, 3 points to Brazilian striker Richarlison. Coach Menezes, center back Marquinhos, goalkeeper Ederson and winger Malcom all received 4 points.

Brazil has no official coach after the 2022 World Cup. The Brazilian Football Confederation appointed U20 coach Menezes as interim coach. According to the media, Brazil has reached an agreement to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as official coach from July 2024. The five-time World Cup champion team is waiting for Ancelotti to lead Real for the rest of the 2023-2024 season.
