On the afternoon of December 31, thousands of people flocked to Nguyen Hue walking street to line up for the 2024 countdown event.
From 4pm, Nguyen Hue walking street, District 1 is packed with people. Most of the people who come here to wait for the countdown moment, the transition between the old year and the new year, are young people between the ages of 20 and 30.
In addition, some parents also brought their children to Nguyen Hue walking street to wait for the first moment of 2024.
At around 5pm, it was raining heavily in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City. Despite the unfavorable weather, many people still waited in the rain to enter the New Year's check-in area. Meanwhile, most people found shelter to wait for the rain to stop.

By 5:30 p.m., the rain still showed no signs of stopping, but the crowd on the walking street was still growing. Nguyen Huu Thang (23 years old, Go Vap district) said he would wear a raincoat and wait. This year, Thang and his friends made an appointment to celebrate the new year and watch a music show taking place in the central area of the walking street.
At around 6:40 p.m., the rain began to stop. People began to flock to the area near the stage to line up to watch the concert. Security forces also guided people to move in an orderly manner.
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Anh (25 years old, Phu Nhuan district) expressed: " My family and I have been waiting for the countdown program for a whole month. We scheduled to watch music together, because this year there are many famous artists. Last year, I went to see the countdown, so I really liked the exciting, bustling atmosphere. I hope that when we welcome the new year with such energy, in 2024 everything will be smooth and lucky."
At around 6:40 p.m., the rain began to stop and the crowd on the walking street grew larger.
The stage area is where the most people gather.
Lining up next to the stage, Dieu Minh’s group (20 years old, Thu Duc City) said they would wait to watch the countdown and high-altitude fireworks. Although the rain suddenly poured down, Dieu Minh did not consider it an obstacle.
" Rain is a blessing, we hope it won't rain when the fireworks show starts," added Ms. Minh.
Some young people brought food into the countdown area to reserve a place to wait after the rain stopped.
A resident took the opportunity to livestream on his personal Facebook before the countdown began.
It's not countdown time yet but Nguyen Hue walking street is already packed with people.
Previously, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said that the fireworks display time for New Year's Eve in Ho Chi Minh City is from 0:00 - 0:15 on January 1, 2024. The fireworks display location is right at the entrance of Thu Thiem tunnel (Thu Duc city) and Dam Sen Cultural Park (District 11).
Of which, at the high-altitude fireworks display at the beginning of the Saigon River tunnel, 1,500 high-altitude fireworks, 30 low-altitude fireworks and 10 pyrotechnic fireworks will be fired.

The funding for the fireworks display on this occasion comes from socialized funds. Ho Chi Minh City also organizes a countdown program on Nguyen Hue walking street.
