The high school graduation exam for 8 out of 9 subjects is in multiple choice format. Candidates need to pay attention to how to fill in their registration number to avoid losing points.

This year’s high school graduation exam took place on June 28-29 with more than one million candidates. All had to take three independent tests: Math, Literature, Foreign Language, and two combined tests: Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civic Education for candidates studying the general education program; or History, Geography for candidates studying the continuing education program). In addition to the essay-based Literature, the remaining subjects were given multiple-choice questions.

According to the exam regulations, for multiple-choice exams, candidates must take the test on the pre-printed answer sheet, and may only fill in the boxes for the candidate number, test code, and answer with black pencil. If you fill in the wrong box or want to change the answer, you must erase the pencil in the old box and then fill in the box of your choice.

Candidates must also fill in the blanks at the top of the multiple-choice answer sheet accurately and completely. The candidate's registration number must be written and filled in completely, including the zeros in front. The exam code must be filled in correctly on the two test receipts.

Upon receiving the test papers, candidates must check to ensure that the components of the Natural Science or Social Science exam have the same test code. If the test code is different, candidates must immediately notify the invigilator, no later than 5 minutes from the time the test papers are distributed; the test papers must be placed under the multiple-choice answer sheet, and the test content must not be viewed without the invigilator's permission.

Once allowed to view the exam, candidates should check to ensure that there are enough questions and pages as stated in the exam and that all pages have the same exam code.

For multiple-choice tests, candidates are not allowed to submit their test papers before the end of the test. When the time is up, candidates must submit their answer sheets to the invigilator and sign two paper collection slips. Candidates may only leave the room after the invigilator has counted all the multiple-choice answer sheets in the room and given permission to leave.

In addition to the above regulations, teachers also have their own notes to help students avoid losing points when taking multiple-choice tests .

Ms. Duong Khanh Huyen, a Math teacher at Edison High School (Ecopark, Hung Yen), advises candidates to take multiple-choice tests according to the principle of "easy first, difficult later". According to Ms. Huyen, only a few test codes have questions arranged in order from easy to difficult, so students should avoid thinking that question 1 is the easiest and question 50 is the most difficult.

"Candidates need to read each question carefully, do the easy ones right away, skip the difficult ones and come back to them later," Ms. Huyen shared. This teacher also advised students to pay attention to the clock to manage their time appropriately, and not to get too caught up in difficult questions and waste time on easy questions. Difficult or easy questions are only worth 0.2 points.

For Math, students should not spend more than 6 minutes on a question, even if it is difficult. They should also draft carefully and divide the draft area clearly for each question so that when they finish, they can just look back at the draft to check their work.

Since 100% of the students' papers are graded by machines, it is very important to fill in the answers carefully. Ms. Huyen reminded the candidates to fill in bold, not outside the lines; to fill in with pencil, to write with a ballpoint pen; to fill in all the sentences; if they want to erase a wrong sentence, they must erase it completely, and not crumple the answer sheet because each student is only given one sheet.
