Livestock farmers in Loc Ha (Ha Tinh) are benefiting from many support policies to maintain and develop livestock herds, thereby helping the district gradually achieve its goals by 2025.
Support policies of Loc Ha district have helped 14 households raising crossbred cows in Hong Loc commune maintain and develop livestock farming.
Mr. Ho Sy Song in Thuong Phu village (Hong Loc commune) is one of 27 families raising crossbred cows that benefit from the livestock development support policy under the Pilot Project to improve and develop cattle herds in Hong Loc and Tan Loc communes in the period of 2020 - 2023 of Loc Ha district.
Accordingly, over the past 3 years, this farming household has been supported with nearly 11 million VND to buy breeding cows, plant 2 sao of grass, buy microorganisms, learn science and technology... Thanks to the "support", from raising 3 sows and 5 beef cows, Mr. Song has now increased his herd to 5 sows and 10 beef cows, earning an average monthly income of about 4 - 5 million VND.
Mr. Ho Sy Song and many breeders in Hong Loc are raising crossbred sows, keeping them in captivity, and using biological bedding.
Hong Loc and Tan Loc are two localities with many advantages for developing cattle herds, so Loc Ha district has chosen to pilot the crossbred cattle development model.
Implementing that pilot program, 27 participating households received nearly 377 million VND to build 9 models of raising crossbred sows with 37 cows, 18 models of raising high-quality crossbred beef cows with 59 cows, breeding 500 crossbred calves, buying 3 grass choppers, training 300 people, planting an additional 12 hectares of grass and potatoes for cow feed, and an annual vaccination rate of 85-90%...
Many households in Tan Loc commune were supported with 300,000 VND/sao to grow elephant grass as feed for crossbred cows.
Ms. Pham Thi Loan - an expert of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district said: "Benefiting from support policies helps farmers in Hong Loc and Tan Loc maintain production, cope with difficulties due to prices, diseases, lack of resources and many other factors. In particular, after 3 years, the quality of the cattle herds in the two communes has been increasingly improved with the crossbred rate reaching 72% (10% higher than before), the number of litters sold increased, the total herd increased, people's livestock thinking changed, the selling price and profit were higher, the crossbred cattle herd is growing and developing well...".

“Through the pilot project on crossbred cattle in Hong Loc and Tan Loc, we have timely oriented and proposed solutions for the cattle farming industry in Loc Ha district to develop rapidly, sustainably, safely and effectively. In addition, it also contributes to creating the premise and foundation to reach the goal of having a total herd of about 11,000 cattle in the district by 2025, of which crossbred cattle (3B, Brahman...) account for 70% of the total herd, with 1,000 crossbred calves born each year in the district through artificial insemination,” Ms. Loan added.
Loc Ha has many policies to encourage household-scale pig farming, in an organic direction, using biological bedding, ensuring disease safety.
Along with the pilot project to improve and develop cattle herds in Hong Loc and Tan Loc communes in the period of 2020 - 2023, livestock farmers in Loc Ha have also arranged billions of VND and many support mechanisms for livestock farming according to the project "Restructuring the agricultural sector, associated with building new rural areas in Loc Ha district in the period of 2022 - 2025".
Accordingly, in addition to the crossbred cow herd, Loc Ha district has "supported", motivated and encouraged the development of organic pig herds with a support level of 25 million VND/household (model of 10-20 pigs), 35 million VND/household (from 30 pigs or more) to build barns, buy breeds, buy food...
People of Mai Phu commune are supported 100% of the cost of purchasing microbial products as biological bedding in livestock farming.
In addition, Loc Ha district has also allocated funds to support contract staff in charge of slaughter control and veterinary hygiene inspection with 500,000 VND/person/month (in addition to the provincial support level); paid 100% of the cost of purchasing microbial products for biological bedding in household livestock farming (at the level of 100 households/commune/year); paid 100% of the cost of purchasing materials for sampling and testing specimens for some dangerous diseases in livestock and poultry; paid 40% of the cost of purchasing vaccines to prevent lumpy skin disease for households raising buffalo and cows in the area (2 doses/head per year)...
Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district, Le Hong Co, assessed: The policies to support livestock development in the area are very necessary, contributing significantly to maintaining livestock herds and proactively re-herding when favorable (currently 10,260 cows, 9,840 pigs, 280 thousand poultry), ensuring disease control, stabilizing livelihoods, and creating income for people.
The policy also helps Loc Ha gradually overcome existing problems, remove obstacles, encourage the development of large-scale farms and ranches in planned areas... aiming for a herd of about 11,000 cows, 15,500 pigs, and 415,000 poultry by 2025...
