Planned according to the model of “city within a city”, Thuy Nguyen of Hai Phong is in need of new urban areas that truly improve the quality of life of local people such as Vlasta – Thuy Nguyen or Hoang Huy Green River.
New growth pole
The “city within a city” model has been successful in many large cities around the world, from Europe to Asian cities such as Seoul, Manila, and Tokyo. Seoul has developed both banks of the Han River and, together with neighboring Incheon (population 3 million), formed an important economic center. In the past 5 years, Hai Phong has devoted a large amount of resources to investing in the increasingly complete urban infrastructure and transportation infrastructure for Thuy Nguyen. On the journey to become an urban area, Thuy Nguyen has achieved many successes, but to complete the model of a “city within a city,” it still needs to resolve some important “unknowns.” The main challenges include attracting investment capital, optimizing local resources, developing synchronous industrial parks and sustainable residential areas. In particular, the “unknowns” of urban development have not yet met expectations.
Architects believe that the planning of "city within city" must clarify the population distribution pattern for central urban areas, expanded urban areas, and especially satellite cities and provincial cities.
The development of the “city within a city” model will change the structure of the “mother” city to exploit the potential more effectively in the process of urbanization, urban development and urban economy… Although it is a “child” city, Thuy Nguyen is seen as an opportunity to create a breakthrough in socio-economic development with the role of a nucleus, a driving force for innovation, leading the overall development of the entire city and its vicinity.
