Artists honor People's Artist Kim Cuong
On the evening of January 28, the program "Forever Golden Bell" honoring "Diva Kim Cuong" produced by the Arts Department of Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) took place at the HTV Theater studio and was broadcast on HTV9 channel, with sponsorship from Saigon Industry and Trade Bank - SAIGONBANK. The audience was overwhelmed with emotion at the return to the stage after 20 years of People's Artist Kim Cuong.
Singers Nguyen Phi Hung and Anh Ngoc perform the song "Return to the old roof" (musician Pham Duy)
Artists: People's Artist Le Thuy, singer Elvis Phuong, singer Dam Vinh Hung, Nguyen Phi Hung, Anh Ngoc, Le Thu Uyen, Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam, Meritorious Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh, Meritorious Artist Ngoc Doi... performed songs and were filled with emotion when present at the night honoring "Diamond Diva".
People's Artist Kim Cuong emotionally greeted the audience
What moved the audience the most was the excerpt "Durian Leaf" composed and directed by People's Artist Kim Cuong, in which she performed the role of Miss Dieu alongside Meritorious Artist Huu Chau, artists Luong The Thanh, and Le Phuong.
In the memoir "Living for life, living for myself", People's Artist Kim Cuong wrote: "At the end of my life, when I was no longer on stage, I realized that with the career of the stage attached to me since I was in the cradle, flowing deep in every fiber of my family, in every breath, I must live for life, sending all my love, so that Miss Dieu, Miss Be, Thi Binh, the mother selling tea, Miss Trang in Camellia... will forever be beautiful symbols of women in life".
On this honor night, People's Artist Kim Cuong vowed to live a life of service to others, following the guiding principles passed down by her mother, People's Artist Bay Nam.
People's Artist Kim Cuong talks about her life and career
The audience was extremely fond of the role of Miss Dieu played by People's Artist Kim Cuong. From an innocent and cheerful 18-year-old girl, she became a 30-year-old woman who was devastated by the hardships of life, and finally a 60-year-old woman who was exhausted and enduring. In every scene, People's Artist Kim Cuong had to make the audience emotional.
Singer Dam Vinh Hung excellently performed the song "Bông hồng cái áo" (musician Pham The My)
And in this performance, she was truly happy to relive the role of Miss Dieu in the excerpt "The Durian Leaf"... that happiness was expressed with the loud, long applause of the audience who had special feelings for her.
To mark an artist's life, this performance is considered a lifetime event, because she is 87 years old and her health does not allow her to continue working on the stage.
Looking back at more than 70 works, more than 2/3 of them are about motherly love and marital love. And all were composed near Tet.
More than ever, the show is about to say goodbye to the old year, to welcome the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, this is the moment when she believes artists can easily find materials to put into their scripts.
People's Artist Kim Cuong expressed her emotions after hearing singer Dam Vinh Hung sing the song "Bông hồng cái áo"
I don't know if artist Kim Cuong's soul is often lonely in love, but she often compares with her friends: "In my life, I write plays and act plays for myself, and I never lose to any character. I can be a mother, a child, a grandchild, a troupe leader, a person in charge of art, even managing a troupe, but there is one role that I cannot do, and that is being a wife."
Singer Elvis Phuong sang again the song "Duyen Kiep" that musician Lam Phuong composed for the play "La Du Rieng"
Realizing the difficulties in love, People's Artist Kim Cuong often goes straight to the point so that her characters can answer tragic questions from their own hearts.
From then on, every night she recreated her joy and sadness on stage. The presence of the dressing table throughout the show speaks for itself, because backstage, the dressing table helped her transform into the characters and see herself more clearly before stepping onto the stage.
People's Artist Kim Cuong gave People's Artist Le Thuy a bright red rose, thanking her for performing the folk song "Giac mong la du rieng" composed by composer Vien Chau.
And from then on, the audience will always remember a girl named Dieu in "Sour Leaf", a girl named Y Lan in "Lady of the Camellias", a girl named Bich who refused to accept her fate in "Under Two Colors of Ao Dai", a girl named Tu who sells sweet soup but has a bitter life in "Rose Pinned on the Shirt"...
All put together we see a Diamond Goddess with a wealth of life experience, dedicating genuine emotions to the stage.

Rewatching "Durian Leaves" and the reportage recalling her artistic life, the audience still feels the burning passion for her profession from an artist who has dedicated her life to many tragic women.
However, the advantage of Kim Cuong drama is not to let the sadness overwhelm the woman's will to rise up. Viewers remember a successful Tanhia after stumbling in life. Or two daughters, one naughty, one good in "Under two colors of shirt".

In short, it is still a strict educational lesson for fathers and mothers, the will to stand up and rebuild life after a failure. The truth that does not change over time in the play Kim Cuong is also loyalty, typically the character Dieu (Durian Leaf).
She shared that this performance was a happy one because her passion for the theater is still strong enough to spread and warm up the younger generation following in her footsteps.
The program honoring her was organized by HTV to affirm that the creative launch pad of Kim Cuong drama in theatrical life is still a lasting support.

She is proud to be honored as the person who laid the first brick to build a Southern drama school in the 50s and 60s of the last century in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City. From there, there was a generation that followed to bring glory to the Southern drama village that is always dynamic, creative and developing.
Initiated in 2014, the program "Soulmate Artist" was born not only to bring material value, but also to aim at what artists really need - affection, an opportunity to meet and share feelings after a long year.
Along with that, the scholarship fund named after People's Artist Bay Nam has contributed to nurturing the future for many generations of children of artist families.
