(NLDO) – Disagreeing with the referee's decision, a racing team rowed their boats out to the middle of the lake to stop the referee and a fight broke out.
On February 5, Mr. Hoang Minh Giam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong Ana district, Dak Lak province, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 2025 Traditional Men's Boat Racing Tournament of Krong Ana district, said that he had assigned the district police to urgently clarify the scandal between the racing teams for strict handling.
The police force had to go down to the lake to escort the obstructing team to shore.
According to Mr. Giam, the district police will compile and extract all images to clarify the incident, banning all boats that violate the regulations from participating in the tournament for the next 2 years. In addition, based on the level of violation, they will strictly handle the case to avoid affecting the image and reputation of the traditional race that has been painstakingly built over many years.
Previously, on February 4, Krong Ana district organized the 2025 Traditional Men's Rowing Race. When it came to the semi-finals and finals, a situation occurred where a racing boat protested and did not accept the referee's decision. At the same time, this team ran their boat out to block the middle of the race track to prevent the race, causing the race to be suspended for more than 2 hours. The police had to escort the protest boat to shore so that the race could continue.
Not stopping there, when the champion team reached the finish line, the reaction boat approached, causing a scuffle between the two teams.
On the shore, some overzealous fans reacted, provoked, and even threw rocks at the opposing boat, creating chaos.
"Last year we banned several teams, this year we will continue to deal with them strictly and not let this situation happen again" - Mr. Giam informed.
In 2024, a similar incident occurred at this boat race when the referee team discovered that a team that entered the final round violated the racing regulations and asked the team to leave the race.
The disqualified team then reacted, argued with another racing team and did not accept the referee's decision.
When the two teams argued, the organizers sent security forces into the lake to persuade the rowers, but they refused to come ashore. After that, the two teams argued for many more hours, causing the tournament to be suspended.
It is known that the traditional men's boat racing tournament of Krong Ana district has been held since 1994 until now at the beginning of the new year. Every time the tournament takes place, thousands of locals and tourists come to cheer.
