Celebrating 10 years of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex being recognized by UNESCO

Also attending were Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd UNESCO General Assembly, along with leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front; veteran revolutionaries, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, heroes of labor, and a large number of people and tourists from all over the world.

At the ceremony, Mr. Pham Quang Ngoc, Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee, said that on June 25, 2014, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was recognized as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Immediately after Trang An became a World Heritage Site, Ninh Binh Province promptly issued Resolutions, planning, plans, management regulations, and directive documents linking Heritage conservation with socio-economic development, especially sustainable tourism development.

Up to now, after 10 years of being recognized as a World Heritage Site, the management, conservation, exploitation and promotion of Trang An values ​​have achieved many good results. The outstanding global values ​​of the Heritage are respected and preserved, scientific research is promoted, international cooperation is enhanced; the work of promoting, advertising and interpreting the values ​​of the Heritage associated with tourism development is regularly innovated; the tourist areas and spots in the Heritage Site have truly played a core role, promoting the development of services and tourism throughout Ninh Binh province.

In 2023, Ninh Binh was voted by Forbes magazine as one of the 23 best tourist destinations in the world; the 11th annual Traveller Review Awards voted Ninh Binh 7th in the top 10 friendliest destinations in the world. By the end of 2023, the province's economic structure had shifted towards increasing the proportion of the service industry, of which the service sector accounted for 47.1%. From more than 2.2 million visitors in 2014, Trang An heritage site welcomed more than 4.6 million visitors in 2023.

The community living in the heritage area participates in protecting the heritage and benefits directly from the heritage. The values ​​of the heritage reach all people, bringing spiritual values, connecting society, maintaining traditional livelihoods and creating new livelihoods towards green and sustainable growth. Trang An Heritage is truly of the community, protected, preserved and benefited from by the community.

Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference, affirmed that thanks to its multi-stakeholder approach and creative cooperation, Trang An has become a model in the dynamic context of sustainable development, a model where local communities are not simply beneficiaries, but also protagonists in the story of a harmonious balance between sustainable tourism and heritage conservation.

In addition to its great aesthetic appeal, Trang An is also a concrete evidence of preserving the diversity of heritage and sharing the benefits gained from exploiting the landscape fairly, enhancing the sense of belonging to this place, mutual respect, social cohesion, as well as the freedom of choice and action of individuals and groups.

This achievement is the result of our collective efforts to unleash the transformative power of our heritage to enrich the lives of both present and future generations.

In an era of rapid global change, when social upheavals and divergent interests often leave us feeling disconnected, partnerships to protect Trang An serve as a bridge, promoting dialogue and understanding between communities, groups and individuals around the world.

The President of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference emphasized that, looking forward to the future summit of the United Nations and the Post-2030 Agenda, let us together ensure that culture – as a public good – will be respected in our common actions as a strong commitment. At the same time, Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu hoped that the next ten years in the history of Trang An will continue to be written by cooperation, conservation and a common vision of a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized that Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural and natural heritage in 2014, becoming the 31st mixed heritage in the world, the 11th in Asia-Pacific and the first mixed heritage in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

After 10 years of being listed, with the decisive participation and creative and systematic approach of the government, businesses and people of Ninh Binh, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is considered one of the most typical exemplary models in the world for the successful combination of economic development and sustainable tourism while still being able to respect nature, ensuring harmony between the interests of the people, businesses and the state. At the same time, Trang An has become a symbol of Vietnam's responsible commitment to implementing the UNESCO convention on the protection of the world's natural and cultural heritage.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Comrade Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements in the field of heritage conservation and promotion that the Party Committee, government and people of Ninh Binh province have achieved over the past 10 years.

To continue promoting achievements and realizing aspirations, aiming for sustainable development through heritage conservation, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang suggested that the Party Committee and the Ninh Binh government, together with all levels of sectors, agencies, businesses and people, join hands to be proactive and creative in mobilizing resources, especially public-private cooperation, and seek the support of ministries, sectors, domestic and international experts to continue building, planning and developing the value of Trang An heritage.

At the same time, continue to promote the role of active and responsible participation of people in the heritage area, helping people to both participate in heritage conservation and benefit from heritage to strongly shift the economic structure associated with innovation of green growth model, creativity in the direction of promoting the application of science and technology, digital transformation to increase the economic value of heritage; develop cultural industry in the direction of modern professionalism, creativity with high competitiveness, taking heritage conservation as the foundation to create development momentum; actively integrate internationally in preserving, maintaining and promoting the value of global heritage, especially for UNESCO; strongly promote the value of the image of Ninh Binh's culture, people and nature to domestic and international friends.

At the same time, build Hoa Lu city into a millennium heritage city, a creative city, with high brand value in tourism, cultural industry, heritage economy of the whole country and the Asia-Pacific region.
