Nguyen Huy Hoang qualified for the 2024 Olympics after reaching the A standard. The swimmer born in 2000 achieved this result when he finished third in the final of the 800m freestyle event at the 19th ASIAD (Hangzhou, China).
Nguyen Huy Hoang won the Bronze Medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. The two first-place finishers were Kim Woo-min (Korean, 7 minutes 46 seconds 03) and Fei Liwei (Chinese, 9 minutes 49 seconds 90). Huy Hoang's time was 7 minutes 51 seconds 44, exceeding the A standard of 7 minutes 51 seconds 65.
Nguyen Huy Hoang is the third Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Previously, shooter Hoang Thu Vinh achieved this feat when participating in the 2023 World Shooting Championship held in Azerbaijan and cyclist Nguyen Thi That (cycling) earned a place at the world arena next year, thanks to winning the 2023 Asian Championship.

Nguyen Huy Hoang was very happy when he successfully defended his Bronze Medal in the 800-meter freestyle. Previously, on September 26, the swimmer from Quang Binh did not win a medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle, the distance in which he won the Silver Medal at the 18th ASIAD.
" I gradually regained my competitive feeling compared to the first day. At the 1,500 meter distance, I was a bit nervous and not mentally stable. However, today, everything was different. My goal is to win a medal. I am very happy with this medal because the ASIAD takes place every 4 years ," Huy Hoang shared.
By 8pm on September 28, the Vietnamese sports delegation had won 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 11 Bronze Medals. In the coming days, some key sports that Vietnam expects to win Gold Medals, such as Sepak Takraw and Karate, will enter competition.
