Today (October 16), the State Bank of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City branch, said that although remittances in recent quarters have decreased (the third quarter decreased by 4.1% compared to the second quarter), the amount of remittances in the first 9 months was still equal to 78.1% compared to the whole year of 2023 (the year with the highest amount of remittances, reaching 9.46 billion USD).
According to statistics, the amount of remittances sent to Ho Chi Minh City, including remittances sent through economic organizations (remittance companies), reached nearly 5.5 billion USD, accounting for 74.2%; transferred through credit institutions reached more than 1.9 billion USD, accounting for 25.8%.
Remittances from Asia still accounted for the highest proportion (53.8%) and continued to maintain the best growth rate, up 24.1% over the same period.
Meanwhile, remittances from the Americas increased by 4.4%, Oceania increased by 20%, and Europe decreased by 19.1% over the same period.
In the third quarter alone, remittances from all regions decreased, but from the European region increased by 22.8% compared to the second quarter.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Lenh, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City branch, despite a slight decrease in the last two quarters, remittances will still achieve a growth rate of about 10% per year in 2024.
