The project not only has important significance in terms of traffic connection, but also symbolically connects and expands the development space of the city center area."
The project has a total investment of about 1,000 billion VND, sponsored by Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company without any conditions. Initially, it was expected to start construction before April 30, 2025 and be completed in 2026. However, the groundbreaking ceremony was held one month earlier than the original plan.
The pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River starts from Ben Bach Dang Park (District 1) to the south of the central square of Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City).
The project has a total length of 720m and a width of 6m-11m. In particular, the bridge has a main span across the river of 187m, with a clearance of 80x10m.
The bridge construction site is located between Ba Son Bridge and Saigon River Tunnel. The bridge head on District 1 side will be located in Bach Dang Wharf Park area, near Nguyen Hue walking street, the bridge on Thu Duc City side will be located in Saigon River bank park.
The distance from the highest water level to the bridge underpass (navigable clearance) is 10m. On the District 1 side, the approach bridge and ramp are about 285m long and 6m wide, while on the Thu Duc City side, there will be two approach branches 290m and 165m long.
The groundbreaking ceremony today is one of the practical actions to celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day and is a new step forward, helping to improve the quality of life for the people; at the same time, creating more highlight works of special value in the city's planning.
The bridge is designed with a separate lane for bicycles and can withstand the load of an ambulance of up to 3 tons. On both sides of the bridge are pedestrian lanes for visitors, taking pictures and resting. Between the bicycle lane and the pedestrian lane is a soft median strip that can be flexibly removed to change functions, serving the organization of community events.
The pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, in addition to its goal of connecting traffic, also aims to become a new architectural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the value of connecting the two historical and cultural spaces of District 1 and Thu Duc City. In particular, it creates a public space that is friendly, safe, convenient, and attracts people to visit.
Accordingly, the bridge will be designed with the image of a water coconut leaf, a typical symbol of the South with unique and impressive beauty.
In addition to the modern lighting system, the bridge is also equipped with a roof, drainage system and many other amenities to ensure safety and convenience for people.
The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2026. During the construction period, relevant units are committed to ensuring traffic safety and minimizing the impact on people playing in the Bach Dang wharf area.
