Literature test in 10th grade admission and high school graduation exam changes
"In the document guiding the implementation of secondary education tasks for the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training requires educational institutions not to use textbook materials for periodic testing of literature subjects.
In my understanding, this emphasizes that the 10th grade entrance exam and the 2024-2025 high school graduation exam will be completely free of works in textbooks," said the head of the literature department of a middle school in Ho Chi Minh City.
Therefore, this will lead to fundamental changes in the teaching methods of teachers in grades 9 and 12. The last two grades of the previous school year still implemented the old 2006 program, in the 2024-2025 school year.
The literature exam for grade 10 admission and high school graduation will change a lot when the materials in textbooks are no longer used. This also leads to changes in testing and assessment at the schools where students are studying.
"There will certainly be changes in the direction of how to equip students with skills and test-taking abilities. But fortunately, over the past three years, students have gradually become familiar with the new program, using materials outside of textbooks."

There is a situation where teachers "install" lessons outside of the textbook in periodic tests.
According to this teacher, after three years of implementing the 2018 program, there have been many "laugh-out-loud" stories about teachers choosing works for exam questions, such as choosing inappropriate works, choosing offensive works... because teachers are used to the old teaching and learning methods of only giving lessons in textbooks.
Therefore, there are cases where, in tests and assessments, teachers "insert" works in advance for students to circumvent the law on requirements for materials outside of textbooks. Even some school boards also agree with the way teachers "insert" lessons in advance for students "because of the teachers' and schools' achievement problems, because they want students to get high scores on the test...".
With this regulation of not using materials in textbooks, many teachers assigned to teach grades 9 and 12 will be very worried because for the past few years they have been teaching according to the 2006 program and creating exams according to the 2006 program.
Thus, teachers must teach students in grades 9 and 12 about skills and test-taking abilities so that they can do well in the 10th grade entrance exam and high school graduation exam. This is a big challenge, and teachers are very worried.
Language materials must be outside of textbooks, worrying that students' literature learning is becoming more and more "superficial"
The head of the literature department of a high school in Ho Chi Minh City said that the school has not used textbook materials for periodic testing for about 10 years now.
"The weakness that we teachers have not found a way to overcome over the past 10 years is the depth of students' literary perception.
In the past, students were taught a lesson that was analyzed back and forth, deeply, each sentence, each word, each paragraph. Then, students were suggested by teachers to actively expand their search for documents. Therefore, when studying literature, students understand the work deeply, thereby easily forming thoughts and absorbing into their souls the good, positive things in the works.
The new curriculum's learning style is more practical but lacks depth, students mostly learn the work superficially. That is the disadvantage of the new learning style when it is regulated that textbooks are not allowed to be used to create exam questions.
