The overall project “Enhancing children and communities’ resilience to climate change through climate education and afforestation in Thanh Hoa province” is implemented by Hong Duc University, Ben En National Park Management Board and Save the Children International, under the sponsorship of Hyundai Engineering Group and Hyundai Motors Group of Korea.
President of Hong Duc University Bui Van Dung delivered the opening speech at the conference.
The project consists of two components, of which component number 1 is to enhance children and communities' ability to adapt to climate change through climate education at Hong Duc University and 10 high schools in the province. This component has a total aid capital of 548,231 USD.
Component 2 is to enhance children and communities’ climate change adaptation through afforestation in Ben En National Park. This component has a total grant of 196,757 USD.
Dr. Le Van Cuong, Head of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Hong Duc University, introduced the project in general.
It is expected that after 3 years of project implementation, more than 4,300 students will participate in activities at the Climate Change Education Center at Hong Duc University and more than 5,000 students will participate in communication campaigns to raise public awareness of climate change adaptation at 11 high schools in Thanh Hoa province. In addition, at least 10 hectares of forest will be newly planted and well cared for in Ben En National Park.

At the conference, delegates shared information about the project, including its objectives, expected results, activities and specific implementation plans. At the same time, participants discussed their roles and responsibilities in the project implementation process.
Speaking at the conference, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Thi acknowledged, highly appreciated and sincerely thanked the important and meaningful contributions of the Hyundai Group and Save the Children International in Vietnam for prioritizing resources and funding projects on enhancing climate change adaptation in Thanh Hoa province. At the same time, he emphasized: Thanh Hoa province has diverse terrain with 3/4 of the area being hills and mountains, a 102km long coastline, and the 5th largest forest area in the country with 647 thousand hectares. These are very sensitive factors, vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
In that context, Thanh Hoa province always pays attention to and focuses on raising public awareness and enhancing capacity to respond to climate change, considering this both a goal and an important political task in the process of building and developing the economy - society towards green and sustainable growth. Along with mobilizing internal resources, Thanh Hoa province always pays special attention to attracting and improving the effectiveness of mobilizing foreign non-governmental aid, especially aid programs and projects in priority areas and areas in the province, contributing to improving capacity to respond to climate change.

Regarding the implementation of the overall project "Enhancing the capacity to adapt to climate change of children and communities through climate education and afforestation in Thanh Hoa province", Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Thi suggested that, immediately after the kick-off conference, Hong Duc University and Ben En National Park Management Board, as project owners of each component, should perform well the management work, closely monitor the project implementation process, ensure the correct implementation of the objects, objectives and contents, and approved plans, and maximize the value and significance of the aid.
It is recommended that the Department of Education and Training coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to guide and facilitate educational institutions selected as locations to implement component 1 of the project, to effectively carry out propaganda, dissemination and encourage students to participate in training and coaching on climate change adaptation; proactively organize specialized activities and extracurricular activities of the school to educate, raise awareness and skills to respond to climate change for students and to propagate to their families to implement together.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Thi requested relevant departments, branches and agencies, according to their assigned functions and tasks, to actively support and guide organizations and units in implementing the contents of the aid to ensure compliance with regulations.
It is recommended that Hyundai Group and Save the Children International in Vietnam, as donors, will fulfill the commitments in the Project Document; strengthen coordination and support Hong Duc University and Ben En National Park Management Board during the implementation process to achieve the highest efficiency of the project. At the same time, continue to research, prioritize resources, and sponsor other meaningful projects in Thanh Hoa province to improve the quality of life for people, contributing to further enhancing the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Vuong Dinh Giap, Program Implementation Director of Save the Children International in Vietnam shared: The overall project "Enhancing the capacity to adapt to climate change of children and communities through climate education and afforestation in Thanh Hoa province" is not only a commitment, but also a specific action of Save the Children International and partners to raise awareness of students, students, and people in the community about climate change, promote practical actions to adapt to climate change of children and communities with the participation of stakeholders.
