On October 29, at Cai Mep Industrial Park (Phu My Town, Ba Ria-Vung Tau), PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) held the inauguration ceremony of a special oil and gas industrial project - LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai warehouse.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that the completion and operation of the LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai warehouse project is an important event, of great significance in implementing the restructuring strategies of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group in particular and the sustainable energy transformation strategy of Vietnam in general.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested Petrovietnam and PV GAS to accelerate the construction of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants to soon put the entire LNG Thi Vai gas-electric chain into synchronous operation. Continue to study and invest in phase 2, increasing the capacity of the LNG Thi Vai warehouse to 3 million tons/year according to the approved plan, while accelerating the investment in the Son My LNG gas-electricity center project and other key projects.
"The Government always accompanies, creates the most favorable conditions and environment, supports Petrovietnam and PV GAS in developing oil and gas energy projects, especially green, clean and sustainable energy, and supports businesses in investing in green energy development in accordance with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Construction of the LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai Warehouse started on October 28, 2019 with a total investment of nearly 300 million USD, invested by PV GAS, together with the general contractor Samsung C&T and Vietnam Oil and Gas Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).
LNG tank with height over 50m and outer diameter 82m
LNG Warehouse 1 MMTPA Thi Vai is the first, largest and most modern LNG project in Vietnam with a port that can receive LNG carriers with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT; tanks with a storage capacity of 180,000 m3 , reaching an average warehouse capacity of 1 million tons of LNG/year. Phase 2 is expected to increase the capacity to 3 million tons of LNG/year.
The LNG 1 MMTPA Thi Vai warehouse project fully meets domestic and international standards and regulations, as well as operational safety requirements. The project has an LNG tank with a height of over 50m and an outer diameter of 82m.
Up to now, PV GAS is the first and only enterprise in Vietnam to be granted a certificate of eligibility for LNG export and import by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, marking a new development step of PV GAS in the field of gas and gas products trading.
