Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission. Also attending were Mr. Pham Hung Thai - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Tay Ninh Province.
The construction of the memorial stele for martyrs of the Chang Riec Border Guard Station is part of the series of activities "Repaying gratitude", on the occasion of celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Border Guard's Traditional Day (March 3, 1959 - March 3, 2025), the 36th anniversary of the People's Border Guard Day (March 3, 1989 - March 3, 2025) and the 50th anniversary of the Border Guard's Traditional Day of Tay Ninh Province (May 25, 1975 - May 25, 2025).
The Martyrs Memorial was built with a total area of over 884m2 , over 800 working days and a total cost of over 500 million VND from socialized sources, contributions from the Party Committee Standing Committee, the Command, generations of officers and soldiers who worked at the Chang Riec Border Guard Station and businesses and individuals in the province.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, the delegates reviewed the glorious history of the Border Guard's Traditional Day and the history of the Chang Riec Border Guard Station Memorial. Accordingly, the Chang Riec People's Armed Police Station was established on August 20, 1977 (code 735), located in the area of Cu 24, in Tan Thanh hamlet (now Tan Khai hamlet), Tan Lap commune, Tan Bien district.
The military force consisted of 36 comrades (supported by the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Armed Police). Captain Le Van Nong, Station Chief; Captain Pham Van Lai, Political Commissar; Lieutenant Mai Van Tan, Deputy Political Commissar; Lieutenant Trinh Duy Phuong, Deputy Military Station Chief.
Immediately after receiving the mission, the unit quickly stabilized its organization and deployed its formation to be ready for combat. Because the war situation on the border was very tense, the unit had only been established for a month but its officers and soldiers had to enter the battle with the determination to protect every inch of the sacred land of the Fatherland and protect the peaceful life of the people. Not only bravely fighting the enemy, the officers and soldiers of Chang Riec Border Post also cleverly brought 14 families in the area of Ci 24 and Hill B9 to the rear safely...
With resounding achievements, on December 8, 1979, Chang Riec Border Post was awarded the Second Class Military Exploit Medal by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Two comrades were awarded the Third Class Military Exploit Medal. In the battles from 1977-1979, Chang Riec Post had 8 officers, soldiers and 1 militia comrade who heroically sacrificed their lives, their names were engraved on the stele.
Colonel Le Van Vy, Commander of the Tay Ninh Provincial Border Guard, said that to commemorate the merits of the officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives on this land, and at the same time contribute to educating the tradition for officers and soldiers of the unit and future generations, the Party Committee of the Provincial Border Guard Command decided to build a Memorial Monument for the martyrs of the Chang Riec Border Guard Station.
This is an important historical work, a place for people to come to offer incense, remember and pay tribute to the deceased, and at the same time create a solemn space to organize memorial activities on holidays and Tet, to convey the noble values of patriotism, sacrifice and national solidarity.
On this occasion, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia also visited and presented gifts to officers and soldiers of the Border Guard at Chang Riec Border Post on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Border Guard's Traditional Day and the 36th anniversary of the People's Border Guard Day.
