According to the announcement of the Central Party Office, at the 9th Conference, the Central Party Executive Committee decided to discipline the following officials:
Mr. Le Thanh Hai - former member of the Politburo, former Secretary of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City - violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party regulations, State laws, regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example, and working regulations.
Lack of responsibility, lax leadership and direction, allowing many violations and shortcomings in the Party Committee and the city government, causing very serious consequences, risk of damage, loss, and waste of huge amounts of State money and assets; allowing many criminal cases to occur, including very serious cases, many cadres and party members violating the law, being disciplined, criminally prosecuted, causing bad public opinion, indignation, and very negatively affecting the reputation of the Party organization and the city government.
Mr. Duong Van Thai - Member of the 13th Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee and Mr. Mai Tien Dung - former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Minister, Head of the Government Office have degraded in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle; seriously violated Party regulations and State laws in performing assigned duties and tasks, in preventing and combating corruption and negativity.
Violating regulations on what party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example; causing very serious consequences, public outrage, and very negative impact on the reputation of party organizations, local authorities, and state agencies.
Based on the content, nature, level, consequences, and causes of violations; implementing the Party's regulations on discipline of violating Party organizations and Party members, the Party Central Committee decides:
Discipline Mr. Le Thanh Hai by removing him from all positions in the Party; discipline Mr. Duong Van Thai and Mr. Mai Tien Dung by expelling them from the Party.
The Party Central Committee assigned the Politburo to direct relevant agencies to implement the above contents according to regulations.
Previously, former Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee Duong Van Thai was prosecuted and temporarily detained by the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency on May 1 to investigate the crime of abusing his position and power while performing official duties, related to the case that occurred at Thuan An Group.
Mr. Thai was later also dismissed from the 15th National Assembly.
Mr. Duong Van Thai was born in 1970, from Bac Giang province. Before being expelled from the Party, he was a member of the 13th Party Central Committee, having worked for a long time and held many positions in Bac Giang province. He has held the position of Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee since October 2020.
Mr. Mai Tien Dung - former Minister and Head of the Government Office - was prosecuted and temporarily detained to investigate the crime of "abusing position and power while performing official duties" on April 30.
This is part of the ongoing investigation into the case of bribery, bribery acceptance, and abuse of position and power in the performance of official duties that occurred in Lam Dong province and several related localities.
Between his retirement and his expulsion from the Party, Mr. Dung was disciplined twice. In January 2023, he was warned by the Secretariat for his lack of responsibility in the "rescue flight" incident.
A year later, Mr. Dung was reprimanded by the Politburo for his involvement in violations at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
