The Food Safety Department has sent an official dispatch to the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department and Dak Lak Department of Health requesting to handle violations in accordance with the law.
The Food Safety Department said that, in response to information about excessive advertising of the Supergreens Gummies (Kera vegetable candy) supplement product on social platforms, on March 6, 2025, the Food Safety Department issued Official Dispatches No. 396/ATTP-PCTTR to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety requesting an urgent inspection of the operations of the Sisters Basket Group Joint Stock Company trading this product in Ho Chi Minh City and Official Dispatch No. 398/ATTP-PCTTR to the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health. Relevant units urgently directed the inspection of compliance with the conditions during the production process for Kera vegetable candy products; the production of Kera vegetable candy products at Asia Life Joint Stock Company.
Delegations from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety and the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health inspected the above facilities and took product samples to send to the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene for testing.
Previously, the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene Control (Ministry of Health) was the unit that received and tested Kera vegetable candy samples sent from authorities in Dak Lak and Ho Chi Minh City.
Kera vegetable candy is produced by Asia Life Joint Stock Company (Dak Lak) under the order of Chi Em Rot Group Joint Stock Company (CER Group) headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, on March 5, Kera VietNam Fanpage posted information about the test results of Kera vegetable candy, confirming that 100g of candy contains 0.935% fiber, equivalent to about 0.02992g. On February 13, 2025, the test result of Inulin fiber (a type of soluble fiber) in the candy was 5.8%, equivalent to about 0.1856g.
According to the representative of the Food Safety Department, the advertisement that 1 Kera candy is equivalent to 1 plate of vegetables is due to the fact that those who advertise vegetable candy products on social networks have exaggerated the effectiveness. Kera vegetable candy is called a food supplement by the manufacturer and business unit.
Currently, functional foods are divided into 3 types: health protection foods, foods for special diets and food supplements. Of which, according to the Food Safety Law, the first 2 types are required to register advertising content with the competent authority and can only advertise according to confirmed content.
As for food supplements, management is decentralized to the locality, the production unit self-declare, self-responsible for the content and ensures compliance with regulations according to the Law on Advertising and the Law on Food Safety.
