Iraq is rated higher than Jordan in the 1/8 round of the 2023 Asian Cup. However, Jordan was the better team in the first half. In the 29th minute, Ali Olwan rushed down to face goalkeeper Jalal Hassan. But once again, Ali Olwan's shot could not beat the Iraqi goalkeeper.

Despite escaping defeat in the above situations, the Iraqi defense could not stand firm forever. In the first minute of injury time of the first half, Iraqi midfielder Amir Al-Ammari made a very careless cross.
After a deadlock in the first half, Iraq only found their form in the second half. In the 56th minute, Abdallah Nasib shot low from about 17m, forcing Jordanian goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila to save the goal.
In the 66th minute, Ibrahim Bayesh shot the ball very hard from about 25m, but once again Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila jumped up and pushed the ball away with his fingertips, denying Iraq a goal.
It was not until the corner kick in the following situation that Iraq found a goal. Center back Saad Natiq joined the attack, moved behind the Jordanian defense, headed from about 8 meters, scoring the equalizer 1-1 for Iraq.

Not stopping there, in the 75th minute, Iraq scored a second goal. Receiving a pass from his teammate on the left wing, Iraq's main striker Aymen Hussein coolly shot diagonally from about 14m, raising the score to 2-1 for Iraq.
However, Aymen Hussein received a second yellow card shortly after, for provoking the Jordan team while celebrating a goal. Aymen Hussein was sent off, leaving Iraq with 10 men.
Taking advantage of the extra man, Jordan attacked strongly in the final minutes, then they created drama in extra time.
In the fourth minute of injury time of the second half, Iraqi goalkeeper Jalal Hassan only blocked the first shot of the Jordanian player, but was helpless against Yazan Al-Arab's rebound shot right after: 2-2.
From about 25m, Nizar Al-Rashdan curled the ball beautifully into the far corner, beating goalkeeper Jalal Hassan, sealing a 3-2 victory for Jordan. This victory sent Jordan into the quarter-finals against Tajikistan.
