According to initial information from smartphone leaker Sonny Dickson, the new camera cluster on the iPhone 17 series will have major differences between versions. On March 15, Dickson continued to reinforce these views when he published some photos of the metal mold with the same lines as previously predicted.
Molds are often created by Apple to provide to third-party case makers to determine the dimensions of upcoming iPhone generations, but the company also often does not carve out actual details to avoid revealing official prototypes.
According to Apple Insider , many images and videos circulating on the Internet show that the popular iPhone 17 model may have a traditional dual-camera design with a flash on the left. Meanwhile, the two high-end models are likely to have a new camera cluster design.
Specifically, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models still have 3 camera lenses on the back, with a separate flash and sensor on the right side. The thinner model called iPhone 17e or iPhone 17 Air will have a camera similar to the iPhone 16e line.
In the leaked image, the camera of the iPhone 17e or Air is clearly more prominent than other models. This may come from the overly thin design of this smartphone line, causing the camera to clearly protrude compared to high-end models.
Currently, leaked information about the iPhone 17 design is constantly changing. However, Dickson is someone who has revealed the exact appearance of iPhone models many times before their launch. In April 2024, he correctly predicted the screen sizes of four iPhone 16 models.
In terms of configuration, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are expected to be equipped with 12 GB of RAM, higher than the 8 GB on the iPhone 16 Pro. In addition, some sources from China said that the two high-end models will use vapor chamber cooling technology to improve heat dissipation performance.
