More than 100 disadvantaged children participate in the "Green Frog" swimming competition

On June 28, the People's Committee of Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Community Sports Development Organization (VSC) jointly organized the "Community Children's Swimming Tournament - Green Frog" in Binh Tan District in 2024. The "Green Frog" swimming competition aims to overcome the drowning problem in Vietnam in general and Binh Tan district in particular.

According to information from the organizing committee, the "Green Frog" community children's swimming tournament attracted more than 100 disadvantaged children in Binh Tan district to participate in exchanges, practice swimming skills, and learn skills on drowning prevention at the program.

Speaking about the event, Mr. Le Sa ​​Lin, District Party Committee Member, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Binh Tan District, said that the 2024 "Green Frog" community children's swimming tournament in Binh Tan District is an important opportunity to encourage children to participate in sports activities, exchange and learn, and improve their health. In particular, the event also contributes positively to the drowning prevention movement in the local community. In addition, the People's Committee of Binh Tan District has also launched a swimming competition for the whole population, raising awareness and skills to prevent drowning for local people.

“We hope that the 2024 'Green Frog' community swimming tournament for children will continue to spread strongly to children across the country to popularize and practice physical fitness, improve community health, and contribute to reducing unwanted drowning accidents like the past in Vietnam,” said Mr. Le Sa ​​Lin.

The 2024 "Green Frog" community children's swimming tournament in Binh Tan district is an activity within the project to popularize swimming and prevent drowning - Frogman, launched and held for the first time on June 11, 2024.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of the Community Sports Development Organization (VSC), said that the success of “Green Frog” is not only measured by the number of children who can swim but also by the humanistic and social values ​​that the project brings. With continuous efforts, the project hopes to continue to spread the spirit of drowning prevention to all children, not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also in 63 provinces and cities, especially in remote areas, disadvantaged children, and ethnic minorities.

3,591 women in difficult circumstances in Ho Chi Minh City and Tien Giang received support to develop their livelihoods.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union and the Tien Giang Provincial Women's Union, with support from the Australian Embassy, ​​shared results and lessons learned in supporting 3,591 disadvantaged women in the locality to recover, develop their livelihoods, and minimize the risk of violence after being severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the “Humanitarian Month” in 2024, the entire Vietnam Red Cross Society system provided assistance to nearly 1.7 million people in difficult circumstances, with a total value of nearly 764 billion VND.
