Expanding cooperation - enhancing competitiveness in the international market

On the evening of March 4, the opening ceremony of the Wood and Furniture Export Fair - Hawa Expo 2025 took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The fair attracted more than 350 booths from Vietnam's leading prestigious interior and exterior furniture export manufacturers, promoting "Made in Vietnam" wood and handicraft products to international customers and partners.

Sharing at the event, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - emphasized: Hawa Expo 2025 is one of the most important trade promotion events of the Vietnamese wood processing and furniture industry, playing the role of a strategic bridge to help businesses in the industry expand cooperation, promote brands and improve competitiveness in the international market.

Evaluating this event, Mr. Vu Ba Phu said, as a trade promotion management agency, we always support quality and in-depth trade promotion events such as the Hawa Expo event.

The fair brings together quality export products with the “made in Vietnam” brand to international partners and customers in fields ranging from interior and decoration to uniquely designed handicraft products. At the same time, it helps businesses access information, improve competitiveness and anticipate new trends in the global market.

The Director of the Trade Promotion Agency said that the wood processing and furniture industry always plays an important role in the Vietnamese economy, not only contributing greatly to export turnover but also affirming Vietnam's solid position on the global trade map.

With strong growth in recent years, the export turnover of wood and wood products in 2024 reached over 16.28 billion USD, an increase of 20.9% (equivalent to 2.81 billion USD) compared to 2023. Thereby, continuing to put Vietnam in the group of leading wood and furniture exporting countries in the world.

In January 2025, wood and wood product exports reached 1.42 billion USD, putting wood in the group of 7 commodities with export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 67.9% of the country's total export turnover.

According to the Director of the Trade Promotion Agency, Vietnam's wood processing and furniture industry has recorded remarkable progress, both in terms of production scale and commercial value. From a country that mainly exported raw materials, Vietnam has risen to become one of the world's leading centers for the production and supply of wooden furniture and interiors.

Domestic enterprises are increasingly proactive in improving product quality, increasing added value and gradually building Vietnamese brands in the international market. This is thanks to the continuous efforts of enterprises in technological innovation, improving product quality, complying with international standards and increasing added value in each product line.

In addition, with the trend of green consumption and increasingly strict requirements from the international market, the Vietnamese wood industry has been promoting the application of sustainable materials, improving models, creative designs and optimizing the supply chain to meet the diverse needs of global customers.

Wood and forestry product exports to reach 25 billion USD by 2030

Emphasizing that with its natural and environmentally friendly characteristics, the Director of the Trade Promotion Agency said that the wood industry has significant potential to contribute to the country's decarbonization and sustainable development goals. The trend of urban and industrial development promotes increasing market demand in both quantity and quality for interior wood and engineered wood products.

Vietnam strives to export wooden furniture and forestry products to reach 25 billion USD by 2030.

To support the Vietnamese wood industry to keep up with this trend, Mr. Vu Ba Phu said: The Trade Promotion Agency will continue to accompany Associations and businesses in a number of priority areas such as: Building an export promotion strategy with the goal of exporting wooden furniture and forest products to reach 25 billion USD by 2030; The Vietnamese wood industry develops sustainably based on proactively sourcing raw materials, using certified wood and products with reduced emissions.

At the same time, we continue to support the improvement of compliance and certification capacity for wood enterprises, thereby contributing to enhancing competitive advantages in the market and expanding export opportunities. Compliance with these standards also helps to minimize legal and commercial risks for enterprises.

At the same time, the Trade Promotion Agency will strengthen trade promotion and brand building for Vietnamese wood products. In addition to organizing fairs and exhibitions, it is necessary to expand the ability to provide specialized trade promotion services of associations such as: Organizing foreign trade delegations to research potential markets, organizing international conferences, training on design, digital transformation, green transformation, brand development with more specialized and technical knowledge.

The Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) has always appreciated the efforts of wood industry associations in recent years, always showing their role as a bridge, proactively implementing many trade promotion activities such as exhibitions, trade promotion in foreign markets relatively effectively, meeting the connection needs of the business community. Especially in organizing the Ho Chi Minh City Furniture & Interior Export Fair - Hawa Expo every March.
