At the invitation of US President Joe Biden, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will attend the APEC 2023 Summit Week and conduct bilateral activities in the US from November 14 to 17.
Accompanying President Vo Van Thuong and his wife were Chairman of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai; Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc; Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education Nguyen Dac Vinh; Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang; Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee Le Tien Chau; Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee Duong Van Thai; Secretary of the Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Huu Nghia; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai; Director of the Ho Chi Minh City National University Vu Hai Quan; Chairman of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry Pham Tan Cong.
The Asia-Pacific region and the APEC Forum are important priorities in Vietnam's foreign policy with the policy of promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy, contributing to protecting and promoting security and development interests, and enhancing the country's position.
During 25 years of participating in APEC, Vietnam has actively and proactively contributed to the APEC Forum, proposing many initiatives and cooperation projects that have been highly appreciated by members; contributing to promoting peace, stability, cooperation, regional economic connectivity, maintaining APEC's role as the leading economic connectivity mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region.
Vietnam-US relations have developed strongly in recent times, with the two countries establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during President Biden's State visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in September 2023.
The two sides have signed many cooperation agreements on economics, science and technology, education and training, and humanitarian issues, including trade contracts with a total value of over 10 billion USD.
In addition, with the special significance of this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and in the context of the strong development of Vietnam-US relations in recent times, the working trip and activities in the US of President Vo Van Thuong are extremely important, both in multilateral and bilateral activities, contributing to continuing to maintain and consolidate the peaceful, stable and favorable foreign situation for the country's development.
During a meeting with Ms. Caroline Pham, commissioner of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), on November 13 during her visit and working visit to Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang also affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to its relationship with the US and is ready to work with the US to develop a deep, stable and substantive relationship, concretizing the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership based on 10 pillars established in September 2023.
In particular, the two countries consider economic, financial, trade and investment cooperation as the focus; cooperation in education and training, science - technology, and innovation as breakthrough areas; prioritizing strategic cooperation areas such as semiconductors, research and development, innovation, transportation and logistics, finance - banking, digital economy and energy conversion./.
