“Awakening” traditional cultural values

The 2023 Hanoi Craft Village Food and Tourism Festival attracts about 100,000 locals and tourists to experience... This is also the first time the festival introduces the traditional porridge dish of Ha Mo village (Dan Phuong, Hanoi). According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh - head of the Dan Phuong culinary booth, the steaming pot of traditional porridge, with the fragrant taste of rice and bones, "awakens" the senses of every diner during the early winter festival season. People lined up to enjoy traditional porridge, some people even brought lunch boxes to buy porridge to take home, many people asked for the address to order porridge for their events at the end of the year.

At the Hanoi Tourism Festival in April 2024, the booth of Da Sy traditional craft village (Kien Hung ward, Ha Dong district, Hanoi) with a representative of Lam Anh knife factory introduced and displayed by Mr. Le Ngoc Lam - the owner of the factory attracted many domestic and international tourist groups to visit. International visitors expressed their appreciation for the craftsmanship of Hanoi artisans.

The image of "Chuong village conical hat" (Chuong My, Hanoi) appears in most festival events such as: Hanoi Tourism Festival; Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival; Hanoi Craft Village Cuisine and Tourism Festival; Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival; Hanoi Autumn Festival; Hanoi Lotus Festival and introducing OCOP products associated with the culture of the northern mountainous provinces. With its own cultural symbol, Chuong village conical hats are designed with a variety of miniatures. It is both a place to introduce and promote OCOP products of traditional craft villages and an impressive photo spot for tourists. In particular, international visitors to Vietnam are extremely impressed with the image of Vietnamese conical hats. Under the skillful hands of artisans and skilled workers of Chuong village, conical hats have a variety of designs and materials, suitable for gift products carrying the message of Hanoi craft villages.

According to the plan, from August 23 to August 25, 2024, the Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival with the theme "Hanoi Gifts" will be held in the walking space of Tran Nhan Tong Street and the surrounding area of Hai Ba Trung District. This year, the festival will gather more than 80 booths displaying products, services, and tourism typical of Hanoi with 8 uniquely designed spaces, introduction, exhibition, and promotion areas for tourism in the Capital.

The festival is held to promote tourism gift products, promote and support artisans and craft villages in producing gift products for tourists, and at the same time connect craft villages and gift production units with travel agencies and tourism service businesses to increase the consumption of gift products, contributing to the development of the tourism economy.

In 2023, the Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival attracted about 20,000 visitors. With previous success, the Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival in 2024 promises to become an annual activity in preserving and promoting the cultural values of traditional cuisine and craft villages in Hanoi.

Through the process of urbanization, Hanoi's craft villages inevitably have ups and downs, lack of young successors, and difficulty competing in the market. Therefore, preserving and developing traditional craft village products through festivals is considered a sustainable direction.

Hanoi currently has 1,350 craft villages and villages with crafts, up to now, 745/2,711 OCOP products in the city are products of craft villages and villages with crafts (accounting for 27.48% of total OCOP products in the city).
