(Fatherland) - On the evening of September 27, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a "City for Peace", the 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024 with the theme "Hanoi: Capital of culture and heroes - City for peace" officially opened at the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street area, Hoan Kiem district.
This is an activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the "City for Peace". The event was directed by the Hanoi People's Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Information and Communications; implemented by the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, the Hanoi Youth Union and the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution.
Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong; Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ha Minh Hai; Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam; representatives of diplomatic agencies; representatives of central departments, branches and organizations and Hanoi city.
In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai emphasized that since its inception in 2014, the Hanoi Book Fair has continuously affirmed its mission in honoring reading culture and building a learning society. The Book Fair has become an important cultural event, contributing to deepening the thousand-year-old cultural tradition of Thang Long - Hanoi.
Promoting the tradition of "mutual love and support", the Organizing Committee of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024 launched a campaign for local publishers, book companies, publishing units participating in the Book Fair and readers to donate books to school libraries in suburban districts of Hanoi heavily affected by storms and floods.
Central and Hanoi city leaders cut the ribbon to open the Book Festival.

The Book Fair is organized by the Hanoi People's Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Information and Communications with the participation of more than 30 publishers and book distribution enterprises nationwide, bringing a reading culture space and many attractive book exchange and experience programs.
With the tradition of studiousness of the Vietnamese people and Hanoians, Hanoi city hopes and believes that the 2024 Book Fair will bring readers much joy, creating the best conditions to help readers access rich knowledge resources, serving in life, work, study and research.

The 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024 has many meaningful activities, affirming the importance of books in social life, demonstrating the tradition of studiousness of the Vietnamese people, promoting the cultural values of Thang Long - Hanoi, contributing to improving people's knowledge and sustainable development of human resources of the country. The highlight of the activities is the display and exhibition of books with the theme "Hanoi: Capital of culture and heroes - City for peace"...
In particular, the Book Fair continues to receive the support and participation of a number of diplomatic agencies such as the Embassies of Laos, Cambodia, France, Italy... promising many attractive and colorful cultural exchange activities.

With the theme "Hanoi: Capital of culture and heroes - City for peace", the 9th Hanoi Book Fair 2024 takes place from September 27 to 29 at the walking street of Hoan Kiem Lake.
Within the framework of the Book Fair, publishers and book companies have prepared many attractive and meaningful exchange programs, introducing new works to readers and conveying messages of pride about the cultural and historical traditions of Thang Long - Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.
Some typical programs include: Discussion and introduction of the book "The British East India Company in Dang Ngoai (1672 - 1697)" with guest author - Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Hanoi Publishing House); Discussion and introduction of the book series "History of Vietnam in pictures" with guest Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Ngoc Huyen, Faculty of History, Hanoi National University of Education (Dong A Cultural Joint Stock Company);...
A series of events such as the exchange and launch of the poetry collection "The Secret in the Garden" by author Nguyen Quoc Vuong and the essay "A Thousand Seasons of Flowers" by author Bang Son (Vietnamese Women's Publishing House); Exchange and introduction of the book "Ho Chi Minh Trail" with the participation of author Sherry Buchana, Mr. Nam Anandaroopa Nguyen (who accompanied the author on the Ho Chi Minh Trail) (People's Book Trading Company Limited).
Held since 2014, the Hanoi Book Fair has become a festival for exchange between publishing units nationwide, a cultural meeting place for book lovers, contributing to spreading and enhancing reading culture to a large number of domestic readers as well as international tourists.
