The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians has the theme: “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation”. Thereby, affirming the role and importance of young parliamentarians in the process of digital transformation, integration and sustainable development.
On the eve of the Conference, expressing their views on this event, National Assembly Deputies said that this is a valuable opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its cultural identity and encourage international cooperation and exchange.

Joining hands to promote sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation
The general theme of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians is “ The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through Digital Transformation and Innovation ”. The main theme of the Conference and the thematic discussions on digital transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation, promoting respect for cultural diversity in sustainable development are not only topical but also in line with the trend of the times and the development orientation of countries around the world.
Member parliaments and governments of all countries are fully aware and affirm that digital transformation and innovation are inevitable trends, helping to accelerate and be fairer for each country and each citizen globally so that no one is left behind. These are also Vietnam's top priorities today towards the two 100-year aspirational goals set by our Party at the 13th National Congress. Therefore, the Vietnamese National Assembly has made thorough preparations, proactively and successfully persuaded the IPU on the theme of this Conference.
In fact, in the context of slow progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), only 12% of the SDGs are on track, while 50% are moderately or severely off track. This requires the international community to make stronger efforts and make breakthroughs to achieve the SDGs by 2030, including digital transformation, leveraging technology, innovation, and accelerating to find approaches and solutions; along with promoting respect for cultural diversity, promoting the role of culture in the context of technological transformation and globalization associated with sustainable development.
Through the Conference, Vietnam hopes that young IPU parliamentarians, who are politicians closest to the young generation - those who are knowledgeable about science and new technology, as future leaders, need to join hands to promote the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation.

As the host country of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, we will have many conditions and initiative in promoting Vietnam's interests through the parliamentary channel, meeting development requirements and development trends in the new period, including digital transformation, innovation, green transformation, and sustainable development.
With hundreds of young parliamentarians from IPU member parliaments expected to attend, this will be a good opportunity for us to promote and widely promote to international friends the historical traditions, cultural values, the image of the country, the friendly and hospitable Vietnamese people, the foreign policy, and the achievements of Vietnam's socio-economic development. This includes the attention, care, training, fostering and facilitation of the Party and State for young people; at the same time, it is an opportunity to strengthen and deepen the relations between Vietnam and many important partners. In particular, it is necessary to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation between young Vietnamese National Assembly deputies, Vietnamese youth with young parliamentarians, youth delegates - the future generation of leaders of countries; and seek the support of the IPU and member parliaments for the cause of national construction, protection and development.
As an important political and foreign affairs event in 2023 of the country, with the topicality, importance and urgency of the Conference theme, with the careful preparation of the host country, close coordination with the IPU Secretariat and the Leadership Board of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum, especially, with the positive and impressive results in socio-economic development in recent times and the impressions in the hearts of international friends about the tradition of hospitality, the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians will attract the attention of a large number of young parliamentarians from IPU member parliaments as well as youth of countries, affiliated organizations, IPU partner organizations, observers, political and international relations researchers, youth organizations as well as regional and international press and media agencies.
I strongly believe that the Conference will be a great success, achieving the set goals, including issuing a Conference Statement with a strong message; bearing the mark of Vietnam to contribute to the implementation of international commitments related to the Conference theme, leaving deep impressions in the hearts of young parliamentarians and delegates attending the Conference.
