On the afternoon of April 3, in Vinh city, 50 cadres, lecturers and students of the advanced political theory class K74.A02, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, had a meeting, exchanged and learned about the issue of ethnic and religious management in Nghe An province.
This is an activity in the field research program in Nghe An from April 1-5, 2024 according to the plan of the Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.
Dr. Nguyen Van Quyet - Deputy Director of the Institute of Scientific Socialism, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, led the delegation.
At the meeting, Mr. Vi Van Son - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Nghe An province discussed the situation of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas of Nghe An province.
The ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Nghe An province have an area of 13,745 km2 , accounting for 83% of the natural area; the population is 1,197,628 people, accounting for 41%. Of which, ethnic minorities have 491,267 people, accounting for 14.76% of the province's population, including 47 ethnic groups, with 5 ethnic minorities accounting for a high proportion: Thai, Tho, Kho Mu, Mong, O Du. Nghe An has 27 border communes, with 24 communes related to the implementation of policies on ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Up to now, the rate of communes with national grid electricity has reached 100%; communes without intra-district car roads to the commune center are 3 communes (Mai Son, Nhon Mai, Huu Khuong, Tuong Duong district) accounting for 2.29%.
According to the Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Nghe An province, thanks to the strong direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Nghe An province and the strong participation of all levels, sectors and the efforts of ethnic minorities in synchronously implementing ethnic policies and social security policies, the lives of ethnic minorities are generally stable and increasingly improved; the poverty rate has decreased significantly.
Practical research shows that the Western Nghe An as well as the mountainous Nghe An have a lot of potential. With diverse ecological forest resources, Nghe An has a world biosphere reserve established in 2007, Pu Mat National Park, Pu Huong and Pu Hoat Nature Reserves.
