"Hoang Thuy Linh apologized vaguely and superficially!"
After many days of "silence", at noon on September 18, Hoang Thuy Linh sent a letter of apology for the noise at the press conference announcing her live concert. The apology post opened with the words "respectfully sent to those who have loved, accompanied and supported Hoang Thuy Linh".
The singer wrote: "I would like to learn from this profound experience, to learn and be more skillful in communication, conversation and sharing. I understand that I have the responsibility to apologize to my beloved audience for the kindness I received from everyone."
Hoang Thuy Linh said she always knows her strengths and weaknesses to try to perfect her musical style. The singer said she is practicing every day because she believes she is still lucky to be able to work and be loved.
Hoang Thuy Linh emphasized: "Study, study more, study forever, I still have a lot to learn, have to improve every day to be able to contribute a small part to art and the audience, to the people I absolutely respect."
After the apology letter, fans acknowledged Hoang Thuy Linh's sincerity and hoped she would change in the future. However, most of the audience expressed dissatisfaction, saying that the 300-word letter of the 8X singer was "insincere", similar to a sample essay or even just a "perfunctory apology" to appease public opinion.
Some people even announced that they would no longer support her music products because of her lack of sincerity and receptiveness.
"Hoang Thuy Linh apologized but it was just... for show. She only apologized to those who loved and supported her, so those who didn't support her or the reporters she pulled up at the press conference are not eligible for an apology? It was long-winded, rambling, and ended "just to be square" like the sample essays that artists often do, but there was no admission of guilt," commented an audience member.
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, media expert Nguyen Ngoc Long said that Hoang Thuy Linh's apology "lacked sincerity, was vague, superficial and angered public opinion". According to the expert, the owner of the hit See Tinh still hasn't seen her mistake.
"Hoang Thuy Linh has not apologized to the right people. There are 3 groups of people she needs to apologize to in this matter: the reporter who asked the question at the press conference, the reporter's work unit, the public and the media units. However, Hoang Thuy Linh has not apologized to the 3 groups of people but only apologized to her fans," Mr. Long added.
Media expert and poet Nguyen Phong Viet said that Hoang Thuy Linh's apology was still lacking and not on target.
According to him, Hoang Thuy Linh wrote a long letter but only apologized to those who loved her, while the reporters directly affected at the press conference were not mentioned or apologized to.
The expert emphasized to Dan Tri reporter: "Hoang Thuy Linh's apology still lacks sincerity, is incomplete and not focused. The audience was really looking forward to receiving a response from her. However, with this apology, she once again disappointed and "lost points" in front of the public. This shows the weakness in the singer's way of handling the media."
The way Vietnamese stars apologize determines the audience's attitude!
Before Hoang Thuy Linh, many Vietnamese stars also received "negative reactions" after apologizing. Dong Nhi is a similar case. At the time of causing fierce controversy for her inappropriate behavior towards fans, Dong Nhi also posted a long letter at midnight to apologize to the audience.
In the post, the female singer admitted that she lost her temper when she "blamed" the fanclub (fan community), and apologized and asked to learn from her experience.
However, Dong Nhi's letter still did not calm the "wave" of public anger at that time. Many opinions said that she only "apologized perfunctorily" when she saw the audience turn their backs and demand a boycott. Until now, the conflict between Dong Nhi and her fans is still mentioned by many people.
Similarly, Xuan Bac also made the public angry because of his "barely there" apology. After the post was considered to imply that the audience criticized Tao Quan for "biting the hand that feeds them", Xuan Bac spoke up to explain. However, he did not admit his mistake and said that this was due to a "misunderstanding".
Xuan Bac's blaming and inquisitive attitude has led to continued strong condemnation. Many people have affirmed that "Xuan Bac's apology cannot be accepted" and believe that he does not deserve forgiveness.
Runner-up Dao Hien was also heavily criticized for her insincere apology. After being crowned, the runner-up caused controversy when she made an incorrect statement. Afterwards, the beauty born in 2001 livestreamed an apology. However, during the apology, she had an unserious and unfocused attitude, making many people angry.
According to Mr. Nguyen Phong Viet, the reason for the "reverse reaction" after the apology comes from the fact that most artists lack the skills to deal with the media but always think that they are "capable enough to handle it".
He added: "From there, it leads to artists having incorrect assessments of the problems they encounter. They do not see their mistakes or think their mistakes are not worth it, so they apologize superficially and perfunctorily.
And when they do not properly assess the situation, they will have to face negative consequences for their artistic career."
Expert Nguyen Ngoc Long also commented: "Artists only apologize for the sake of it, but never truly admit their mistakes."
Artists should learn "how to admit mistakes"
According to expert Nguyen Ngoc Long, apologizing and admitting mistakes after scandals is "correct but not enough". In major media crises, this can sometimes have the opposite effect.
"The two concepts of "apology" and "admitting mistakes" are completely different. Apologizing comes from the desire to preserve the relationship, while admitting mistakes comes from the desire to change yourself.
Apologizing is just a sentence and lowering your ego, but admitting mistakes is a process. The process of admitting mistakes goes through 5 stages: Admitting mistakes early, taking responsibility, saying sorry, sincerely correcting mistakes and learning from experience.
Experts emphasize that if artists want to thoroughly handle a media crisis, they should never apologize but admit their mistakes first. Some artists make the mistake of just apologizing.
Psychologist Trinh Trung Hoa believes that "just apologizing is not enough". An apology must be expressed sincerely and with a determination to change for others to accept it. He believes that when an apology is easily forgiven, it will easily lead to reoffending.
The expert shared: "In the entertainment industry, some artists who commit mistakes are "banned from broadcasting". I see this as a necessary deterrent for them to wake up and reflect on themselves."
Regarding Hoang Thuy Linh's case, expert Nguyen Ngoc Long said that she needs to face her own problems before facing the audience.
The expert explained: "The trauma and scandals in the past seem to have turned Hoang Thuy Linh into a thorny person. This also makes her have an aversion to the media and is ready to "bluster" to protect herself.
Hoang Thuy Linh should turn inside herself, face her past hurts and thoroughly solve her personal problems. Only when she sees her own mistakes can she solve them at their root.
Because, an apology is just an external form, if inside you can't really see your mistake, it's useless."
Experts believe that unless Hoang Thuy Linh has an excellent performance in the upcoming live concert, everything may sink and positive information will be reported. "However, in the opposite case, it may create risks for her career," the expert commented.
Expert Nguyen Phong Viet said that Hoang Thuy Linh's apology cannot help her quell the "anger" of public opinion. It even puts the owner of the hit " Let Me Tell You " in a difficult position, subjecting her to more scrutiny in the upcoming concert.
The expert added: "After this apology, Hoang Thuy Linh is still greatly affected by public opinion, everything has not stopped at this point. However, this still depends on her behavior and changes in the future."
Previously, Hoang Thuy Linh caused controversy because of her statements that were considered arrogant and lacked goodwill when holding a press conference to introduce the music night on September 6 in Ho Chi Minh City.
When reporters asked the singer of Gieo Que about singing live and mentioned Ho Hoai Anh's role in the music night, the female singer gave an answer that was off-topic and had an attitude that was considered "arguing" and "lecturing".
The controversy over Hoang Thuy Linh's behavior has caused her to face a wave of criticism from public opinion. From a female singer with many hits and a successful career, Hoang Thuy Linh seems to have "lost points" heavily in the eyes of the public and the media after this incident.
