Nguyen Thi Hoai Anh is one of the artists who was recently awarded the title of Meritorious Artist at the 10th award ceremony held on the morning of March 6 in Hanoi.
The female choreographer of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre emotionally shared: "I am very happy and proud that my labor and dedication to the country's art over the past decades have been recognized. This is a source of spiritual encouragement and motivation for me to try harder in the future," Hoai Anh shared.
Nguyen Thi Hoai Anh received the title of Meritorious Artist.
The artist born in 1982 said that the title of Meritorious Artist is both an honor and a challenge for her. "I tell myself that I must be worthy of the title I have been awarded. I always try to constantly learn, update, and deepen my thinking to create quality plays.
The younger generation is very talented and knowledgeable, so I think I must always change and try my best to contribute a small part to the development of dance art, especially traditional dance, to help preserve national identity," Hoai Anh confided.
To achieve today's title, Meritorious Artist Hoai Anh said she had to go through many difficulties in nearly 32 years of being passionate about traditional dance art.
Despite many years of studying and working as a professional dancer, when switching to choreography for traditional stage plays, Hoai Anh had to spend a whole year researching and learning dance forms in cheo, tuong, and cai luong.
"Throughout a play, dancing must be in harmony with the script, the director's intentions, the music... There are many dance styles that are very difficult and not every actor can do them. That's when a choreographer is needed to guide and instruct the actors to create the most pleasing and harmonious performance," said Meritorious Artist Hoai Anh.
Hoai Anh was moved to receive the title of Meritorious Artist after 32 years of dancing.
The female artist confided that when enjoying dance performances on stage, the audience only sees the most splendid and noble things. However, to achieve that beauty, the artist must spend a lot of time and effort to practice, and must pay with sweat, sometimes tears and blood.
Hoai Anh said that every time she stands on stage, she is sublimated and immersed in the "art sanctuary", being herself, sending her thoughts, feelings, and aspirations into her dance to spread a humane message to the public.
Despite facing many difficulties in her career, Hoai Anh finds that what she has to try the most is to balance family and work. Her job as a choreographer requires her to frequently travel to the provinces to stage plays. Unlike male choreographers who can stay in their hometown for a few days or even half a month, Hoai Anh often chooses to go back and forth during the day to take care of family matters.
The female artist said that many times she had to travel from 3-4am to the locality to set up the play, do artistic work, then return home in the afternoon to take care of family responsibilities, and continue on the road the next morning. "There were times when the festival lasted for a whole month, every day was the same, that schedule kept repeating itself. Even when I was on the road, I rarely rested but took advantage of the time to feel the music, read the script, and think of more ideas so that when I got there, the actors wouldn't have to wait," Hoai Anh said.
Overcoming those challenges, the female choreographer is proud to have achieved the desired work results, especially fulfilling the responsibilities of a woman to organize a happy family but at the same time harmonizing work, not neglecting work and social matters.
