Gibbs-White has been in fine form in the Premier League this season. |
According to UEFA regulations in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Europe, each team can only register a maximum of 23 players for an official match, although coach Tuchel initially summoned up to 26 people for his first training session.
According to The Guardian , midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton) and defender Jarell Quansah (Liverpool) are three people not on the final match registration list.
Tuchel's omission of Morgan Gibbs-White has caused controversy. Morgan was called up to replace the injured Cole Palmer. This season, Morgan has played very well for Forest, helping the club cause a big surprise in the Premier League. However, Tuchel left him out to register Jordan Henderson in the official list of 23 players for the match against Albania.
Former England international Danny Murphy has previously criticised Tuchel for his decision to recall Henderson, while refusing to give a chance to a number of other promising midfielders in English football such as Conor Gallagher, Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton and Morgan Gibbs-White.
Fans had expected Tuchel to bring a more open and free-flowing England team after a disappointing period under Southgate, so the decision to call up Henderson was seen as a negative move by the German strategist.
Henderson will be 36 next summer, and many English football experts do not believe that the former Liverpool captain can make a difference at the 2026 World Cup. On the morning of March 22, the England team will begin their 2026 World Cup qualifying journey with a match against Albania at Wembley.
