The Thai team has just gathered to prepare for a friendly match with Afghanistan on March 21 and a match against Sri Lanka on March 25 in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

In this call-up, "War Elephants" has the return of veteran face Chanathip Songkrasin.

However, two midfielders Jaroensak Wonggorn (Cerezo Osaka Club) and Ekanit Panya (Ehime FC) who are playing in Japan are both absent.

According to coach Masatada Ishii, the reason he did not call up the above duo was because they had little playing time at their home team.

In particular, according to Mr. Ishii, he received a few requests to withdraw from the team.

"Currently, I cannot announce who they are. However, my point of view is very clear, if a player wants to withdraw, I will respond because there are always alternative plans," said the Japanese coach.

In another development, Madam Pang, as President of the Football Association of Thailand, gave away 1,000 tickets to fans at schools and academies to watch the match between Thailand and Afghanistan.

She also donated 500 tickets for the match against Sri Lanka. Both matches were played at Rajamangala Stadium.
