Many people claim that UEFA edited the video of Alvarez's shot. |
Alex Soler, a video editing expert, questioned the authenticity of the video UEFA released explaining the decision to disallow the goal.
In the program Buenas Noches y Buenos Goles analyzed: "With experience in video editing, I found something very strange. The image quality was so bad, the shadows seemed to disappear, which made me suspicious. I couldn't find a reasonable explanation, but the video felt edited."
Soler's argument raises doubts about UEFA's honesty in releasing images as evidence. Not only Soler, Irati Vidal, a sports journalist, is also skeptical about UEFA's transparency.
"The difference between the live image and the video released by UEFA is too big. If they wanted to clear the doubt, they could have released it then, but they waited two days. I can understand why some people believe the video was edited," said Soler.
UEFA's delay in releasing the video has raised questions about whether there was interference before the video was released to the public.

There is no conclusive evidence that Julian Alvarez touched the ball twice. |
However, not everyone believes that UEFA edited the video. Latigo Serrano, a football analyst, expressed skepticism about whether the most powerful organization in European football actually had to "touch" the video.
"UEFA is one of the biggest organizations in world football, but if they really edited the video to justify the decision, it's too clumsy. They have the right to do what they want, and if they want to ignore it, they can simply not give any explanation," Serrano said.
However, despite the mixed opinions, one thing is certain: the controversy surrounding the decision to cancel Alvarez's penalty shows no sign of ending.
In the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 at the Metropolitano Stadium on the morning of March 13, Alvarez shot the ball into Thibaut Courtois' net but it was disallowed. VAR determined that the Atletico player touched the ball twice during the penalty shootout.
Marcos Llorente also missed, while Real's only Lucas Vazquez failed to convert. In the end, "Los Blancos" won 4-2 in the penalty shootout to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals against Arsenal.
