Despite their best efforts, the Vietnamese women's team failed to cause any surprises when they lost 0-2 to the very strong Japanese team in the final match of Group C of the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, in terms of playing style, Huynh Nhu and her teammates tried their best against the number 1 team in Asia and among the top teams in the world. Coach Mai Duc's team played with all their might and showed a resilient spirit.
The Vietnamese women's team played with great effort in the final match of the second qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Looking back at the efforts of the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "Although we could not win, what the players showed on the field made me somewhat satisfied with the team's spirit. Before that, we were afraid of the scenario of a breakdown and heavy loss to the top Asian opponent, Japan. Because, Vietnam lost to Japan 0-7 at ASIAD 19, but this time the score was only 0-2. I think that was already a success and the determination of the whole team. I personally want to thank the whole team for their dedication and good performance."
“On behalf of the Vietnamese women's team, I would like to thank the overseas Vietnamese who came to watch and support us today. In terms of skill level, we lost to the Japanese women's team by a lot. But in today's match, the players showed great determination. We lost, but this is an acceptable score. After this match, we will say goodbye to the tournament. On behalf of the whole team, I would also like to thank the fans and the media at home and abroad who have always accompanied and stood side by side with the Vietnamese women's team throughout the journey. Once again, we would like to thank Uzbekistan for welcoming us warmly, a very peaceful and friendly country,” coach Mai Duc Chung emotionally said.
Facing a high-class opponent like the Japanese women's team, Huynh Nhu (9) could not make a difference.
The match against Japan in the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics was also the last match of Mr. Mai Duc Chung as the head coach of the Vietnamese women's team. Having gone through all the ups and downs, from glory to bitterness, the relationship between the 74-year-old coach and Vietnamese women's football has come to an end. During his time with the Vietnamese women's team, Mr. Chung led the "diamond" girls to win many SEA Games gold medals, Southeast Asian championships and especially won a ticket to the 2023 World Cup finals (for the first time in history).
The Vietnamese women's team is expected to take a flight from Uzbekistan to Vietnam on the evening of November 3. The team will land at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) on the afternoon of November 4.
Reserve goalkeeper Khong Thi Hang was given the opportunity to play the entire match and performed quite well.
Bich Thuy (15) is always very active on the wing.
Tuyet Dung (7) plays hard
