Benefiting from the policy of the National Agricultural Extension Project, dozens of households in Tan Thanh commune (Thuong Xuan) have successfully implemented the model of "raising colored chickens with product consumption". At the same time, the model has been gradually expanded among the people, becoming a "lever" to promote the sustainable poverty reduction process of the locality.

Effectiveness of colored feather broiler farming model associated with product consumption The model of raising colored chickens and consuming products in Tan Thanh commune (Thuong Xuan) brings high economic efficiency.

In March 2023, Ms. Ngan Thi Vien's family in Thanh Nang village received support of 1,800 breeding chickens from the National Agricultural Extension Program. At the same time, the Thuong Xuan District Agricultural Service Center coordinated with the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to organize training on biosafety chicken farming processes. Through the training course, Ms. Vien learned about farming techniques as well as how to invest in building barns, preparing equipment, farming tools, food, biological bedding, etc. Thanks to that, the chickens were cared for according to the correct process, the survival rate reached 97%, ensuring the project's regulations on chicken weight and quality. Ms. Vien said: "After being trained and transferred modern farming techniques, the family has prepared a barn and farming materials that meet regulations. Thanks to that, the chickens have good resistance, increasing the survival rate. Moreover, the application of biological bedding helps farmers reduce labor in cleaning barns, increasing economic efficiency by 15 to 20% compared to traditional, industrial farming."

With support from the National Agricultural Extension Project, the Thanh Hoa Agricultural Extension Center has implemented the model of "Raising colored-feathered broiler chickens associated with product consumption" in Tan Thanh commune. After preparation steps, in March 2023, the project supported 9,000 MD3.BD chickens for 5 households in the commune. From the first days of participating in the model, households were trained in safe farming processes... Along with that, the project committed to being responsible for connecting with business units to consume all chicken output for farming households. The strictness and science of the project have become the driving force for households in the area to implement and promote support capital, rise up from poverty, and stabilize the economy.

After more than 3 months of raising and caring for the chickens according to the transferred techniques, the survival rate of the flock reached over 97.5%, the average weight of the whole flock reached over 2.2kg/bird, the total weight of chickens from the model reached nearly 20 tons, and the revenue reached over 1 billion VND. After deducting expenses, each household earned a profit of about 10 million VND/household. According to the households, the above results were achieved because this breed of chickens ensures quality with high uniformity, is healthy, grows quickly and has good resistance so it is less susceptible to disease, and is also cared for and raised according to the right techniques, especially being fully vaccinated and ensuring biosafety throughout the raising process. Vice Chairman of Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Huu Hoa, said: In the past, the livestock sector in general and chicken farming in particular in the locality were still small-scale, fragmented, and had low economic efficiency. After benefiting from the project from the National Agricultural Extension Program and accessing modern production techniques, local people have improved their skills and changed their production methods. Raising livestock according to the model will help the commune's livestock industry develop more sustainably and effectively.

After the success of the model of raising colored chickens associated with product consumption, not only the 5 households that benefited from the project continued to restore their flocks, but up to now, dozens of other households in the commune have also raised colored chickens with flocks ranging from 500 to 2,000 birds/household. Through the initial support and guidance of the project, households raising colored chickens in Tan Thanh commune have linked together to establish a livestock cooperative as a basis for exchanging information on techniques and experiences in caring for and preventing diseases for chickens. At the same time, they have linked together to buy production materials and sell products. Thanks to scientific and sustainable production, the model of raising colored chickens associated with product consumption has become the driving force and foundation for local people to develop sustainable livestock farming in line with market trends and gradually change the production methods of the people from small-scale, fragmented to applying modern technology and techniques for large-scale production of goods.
