Thuong Binh village is located in a particularly difficult area, the farthest from the center of Yen Thanh commune with 65 households, mainly Pa Then ethnic people, the remaining few are La Chi ethnic people. After many years of waiting, the village still does not have national grid electricity, the awareness of some people is still limited due to backward customs such as: Having many children; early marriage, incestuous marriage; weddings that celebrate the village, held for 2-3 days; the deceased is put in an uncovered coffin, the date is chosen before being buried and many livestock are slaughtered. These bad customs obviously exist, lasting from generation to generation, making people's lives more and more difficult, even some families have to carry on their shoulders a debt that is not paid off for the rest of their lives.

Understanding that, Mr. Lan Van Ta, Secretary of the village Party Cell, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Yen Thanh commune, has been an exemplary pioneer in the revolution to eliminate bad customs in his own village in accordance with Resolution No. 27 of the Provincial Party Committee. After more than 1 year of implementation, returning to Thuong Binh village, everyone praised him for his dedication, enthusiasm, and daring spirit. Mr. Ta shared: “With the determination to change, through the village's Propaganda Team to eliminate bad customs, I gathered cadres, party members, and people with a voice in the community to knock on every door to propagate and mobilize people to implement the conventions and village regulations to eliminate backward bad customs. With a witty, easy-to-understand, easy-to-remember, and easy-to-touch way of communicating, up to now, households do not ask for a dowry for their children, the dowry consists of only chicken, wine, rice, and a little cash according to the economic conditions of the groom's family, the wedding is organized simply and economically. For the Pa Then ethnic group, there is no longer a situation of opening the coffin lid and showing the face of the deceased before burial.

With the drastic, close and synchronous participation of local Party committees and authorities, the role of village and hamlet cadres and the initiative and self-awareness of the people, Yen Thanh commune has 8/8 villages with 100% of households signing a commitment to eliminate backward customs, practices and habits, and build a civilized lifestyle. Each political and social organization builds a good model in eliminating bad customs, typically the model of eliminating child marriage in Pa Vay Su village of the Commune Women's Union; the "3 no" model of the Youth Union; the folk artisans club preserves and promotes the cultural identity of ethnic groups; the Hoang Vien clan, Yen Lap village eliminates bad customs. Not only improving in weddings and funerals, families actively participate in cleaning village roads and alleys, moving barns away from home, renovating and renewing toilets and bathrooms, ensuring a clean and beautiful environment, improving the quality of life for people.

Thanks to the extended arms of the Party, Huong Son commune has gradually resolved difficulties and obstacles in the process of deploying and implementing Resolution No. 27. From the huge costs, the expense of nearly a hundred million VND, the cumbersome rituals in organizing funerals and weddings, the Tay and Dao ethnic people have gradually changed their awareness, supported and seriously complied with the elimination of bad customs. Comrade Hoang Van Nguon, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "Over the past year, in the commune, there have been 26 couples who got married at the right age, were granted Marriage Certificates at the Commune People's Committee, the wedding took place in just 1.5 days; in 7 funerals, none of them lasted more than 48 hours, the visiting delegations did not have to wait in order, the number of flower branches has been reduced. With the motto "slow and steady wins the race", in order for people to firmly build a new life, in addition to adjusting inappropriate content, the commune determined to take grassroots cadres and prestigious people as the core in the fight to eliminate bad customs, pay more attention to women and children, strive to reduce poverty, and develop the economy on their homeland.

With lessons learned from bright spots, in order to further promote the work of eliminating backward customs, along with the participation of the entire political system, Quang Binh district is promoting the role of the propaganda team in villages and residential groups very well. Thereby, creating a strong bond, a skillful mass mobilization model, helping ethnic people to be more excited, trust in the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's policies and laws, actively preserve and promote traditional cultural values, enthusiastically compete in labor production, for a better life every day.
