On August 14, the Investigation Police Agency of Ben Cat Town Police (Binh Duong) announced that it had detained three subjects Phan Dinh Nghia (born 1997), Nguyen Duc Tu (born 2004) and Dau Thi Ly Ly (born 2004), all from Dak Lak province, for the act of illegally detaining people.
Around the beginning of July 2023, through social networks, Phan Dinh Nghia got to know 3 young girls who were looking for jobs.
Nghia said he knew the owner of a karaoke bar located in Ward 6, Thoi Hoa Ward (Ben Cat Town), and would hire the three girls on the condition that they would give Nghia a portion of their daily tips.
3 subjects were arrested.
After the agreement, Nghia brought the 3 girls to live with him in a rented house in Ward 4, Thoi Hoa Ward, Ben Cat Town, along with Nguyen Duc Tu and Dau Thi Ly Ly. Every day, Nghia assigned Tu and Ly Ly to take the 3 girls to work and watch over them to make sure they did not run away.
Some time later, because they no longer wanted to work at the karaoke establishment, the three girls ran away. Nghia and his accomplices tracked them down, arrested them, took them to a rented room, kept them under guard, and forced them to sign a debt paper of 3.5 million VND/person.
Upon receiving the victims' report, Thoi Hoa Ward Police inspected the apartment rented by Nghia and invited all the subjects to the police station for questioning.
Here, Nghia, Tu and Ly admitted to their crimes and stated that the purpose of detaining the three girls was to force them to work as karaoke bar waitresses in order to earn tribute money from the girls.
