On the afternoon of December 30, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a dialogue conference with Vietnamese farmers in 2023, with the theme "Farmers are the subject and center in agricultural development, rural economy and building green and sustainable new rural areas".
The conference was also connected online to the bridge points of 63 provinces and cities. At the Binh Thuan bridge point, there was the participation of Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of leaders of departments, branches, sectors, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations.
At the conference, farmers expressed their opinions on the policy of shifting production thinking to economic thinking in agriculture, from single-value agriculture to multi-value agriculture; implementing the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality rice, reducing emissions; policy solutions to handle rural environmental pollution; policies to support the development of community tourism, many farmers participate in tourism; land accumulation; promoting the consumption of agricultural products, bringing agricultural products to e-commerce platforms; supporting credit capital, supporting agricultural production, rural economic development...
Based on the dialogue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed ministries, branches and local authorities to promptly resolve difficulties and concerns of farmers, businesses and cooperatives to successfully achieve the goal of agricultural economic development. Along with that, it is necessary to build a linked value chain, promote digital transformation of agriculture, build ecological agriculture, and build green and sustainable new rural areas.
According to the report of the Farmers' Association of Binh Thuan province, depending on the potential and strengths of each region and locality in the province, the structure of crops and livestock has been positively transformed, creating many agricultural, forestry and fishery products with high economic value. The material and spiritual life of farmers has been improved, thousands of farmer households have escaped poverty and become rich. The farmers' movement to participate in building new rural areas has contributed to the successful implementation of the task of socio-economic development in rural areas.
However, in the general situation in the province, farmers still lack investment capital, some areas do not have enough water for irrigation, products have low competitiveness, prices are unstable, input prices are high, etc. Farmers account for a high proportion of the total number of poor and near-poor households in the province. Land disputes; planning, compensation and resettlement still have many shortcomings that affect farmers' lives.
