Formula 1 Powerboat Race to be held in Vietnam

The Formula One (F1) Powerboat World Championship is the world's highest level of speedboat racing, similar to F1 car racing. The tournament is organized by the International Powerboat Federation (Union Internationale Motonautique - UIM) and is known as F1H2O for short.

Similar to the F1 racing tournament, the UIM F1H2O World Championship will feature 6-8 Grand Prix races with about 10 teams from different countries, each team consisting of 2 members. Each Grand Prix will take place in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The motorboats in the race can reach speeds of up to 250km/h.

This year, Vietnam is honored to be the host country of the UIM F1H20 International Powerboat Race. This event will be held in Thi Nai Bay, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province on March 29-31, 2024.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam and Indonesia are the two countries hosting a race at F1H2O. However, Indonesia has no team participating in the competition.

It is known that the stages will have 3 days of competition, on the first day there will be a competition for the starting position (Pole), on the second day there will be a sprint race to score points (Sprint Race) and the last day is the Final Race.

The qualifying round is divided into three main stages. Accordingly, the racers must use motorboats designed according to UIM regulations with a maximum speed of 250 km/h. Each official race usually lasts about 45 minutes. Each lap is more than 2,000 m long.

During the race, racers are not allowed to collide with each other or with obstacles on the track.

Each motorboat costs about 20 billion VND.

With the organization of the UIM F1H20 International Powerboat Race, Vietnam has become the host country of the UIM F1H2O for the first time. Notably, the race is held as part of the Amazing Binh Dinh Fest Week event series to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of Binh Dinh Province (March 31, 1975 - March 31, 2024).

According to research, Vietnam has a racing team named Binh Dinh – Vietnam with the support of the current champion Jonas Andersson (Sweden) F1H2O 2023 and Stefan Arand (Estonia) as the competitor. The Binh Dinh – Vietnam team owns 3 speed boats, each boat is worth about 20 billion VND.
