Pig prices are gradually decreasing

According to records, in the Northern region, live hog prices continued to decrease in Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc and Hung Yen, all at 76,000 VND/kg.

Currently, traders in the North are purchasing live pigs at prices ranging from 75,000 - 77,000 VND/kg. The highest price in the region is 77,000 VND/kg in Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Hai Duong and Phu Tho.

The market for live pigs in the Central Highlands also decreased in some localities this morning. Currently, the price of live pigs in this area fluctuates between 76,000 - 81,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, Binh Dinh is at 77,000 VND/kg; Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hue are at 76,000 VND/kg; Ha Tinh is at 75,000 VND/kg.

The Southern market with only Binh Duong province decreased to 81,000 VND/kg, the remaining provinces and cities remained stable in the range of 80,000 - 82,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc and Ca Mau are the localities with the highest pork prices in the country, reaching 82,000 VND/kg.

Thus, compared to the price at the beginning of the week, the price of live pigs has decreased by 1,000-2,000 VND/kg in many localities. However, the price of pork in the market has not yet created a downward trend due to a certain delay.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of February 2025, the total pig herd in the country was over 30 million, an increase of 3.7% over the same period last year. The current shortage of live pigs is only localized due to the increased demand for meat by people before, during and after Tet, high prices, so businesses and pig farmers have sold pigs to meet market demand, leading to a decrease in the total herd.

There are many reasons for the recent decline in the number of live pigs; however, experts affirm that the supply of pork is sufficient to meet domestic demand and the price of live pigs will only increase in the short term.
