Live pigs in Yen Bai, Thai Binh and Tuyen Quang are being purchased at the highest price in the region of 60,000 VND/kg, an increase of 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg depending on the region.
* Pig prices today in the Central and Central Highlands regions increased in some provinces.
Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 54,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, the price of live pigs in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An was recorded at 57,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg.
With the same increase, the two provinces of Binh Dinh and Lam Dong are purchasing live pigs at 55,000 VND/kg and 56,000 VND/kg, respectively.
Binh Thuan province increased by 3,000 VND/kg to the highest level in the region at 58,000 VND/kg.
* Pork prices in the Southern region, live hog prices recorded an increase of VND 1,000/kg in the two provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai, at VND 56,000/kg and VND 57,000/kg, respectively.
The remaining provinces and cities have stable prices today.
The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 52,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.
* According to the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, the situation of smuggled pigs not only causes damage to domestic farmers but also affects the health of consumers because this is a source of pigs that are not controlled for diseases, especially in the days near Tet, food safety is still a hot topic. However, there are many difficulties in handling violations.
The economic police said they were not authorized to operate at the border, so they had to wait until they reached the interior. However, once they reached the interior, they had to prove that the pigs were from the border. To prove this, the market management said they needed traffic police because they could not stop the vehicles.
However, authorities said they will take drastic action to deal with violations with sanctions that are strong enough to deter.
Preventing smuggling is a legitimate proposal but is still only a superficial problem for the livestock industry. The total export turnover of the livestock industry in 2023 is about 430 million USD, much lower than other billion-dollar agricultural products.
The most effective way to prevent pigs from crossing the border from abroad is to increase production value on a larger scale, create better competitiveness, and regain consumer trust.
