Approved Gia Binh airport planning to welcome 5 million passengers/year

During the period 2021 - 2030, Gia Binh airport (Bac Ninh) will have a capacity of about 5 million passengers/year; by 2050 it will increase to 15 million passengers/year.

The Minister of Construction has just signed a decision approving the adjustment of the Gia Binh International Airport Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, Gia Binh Airport is an international airport, with the nature of use being an airport for shared civil use, security and defense.

During the period 2021 - 2030, Gia Binh International Airport will be a 4E airport with a capacity of about 5 million passengers/year and 250,000 tons of cargo/year; operating B777, B787, A350, A321 aircraft and other special and specialized aircraft.

By 2050, Gia Binh International Airport will maintain its 4E airport level but increase its capacity to 15 million passengers/year and 1 million tons of cargo/year; still operating B777, B787, A350, A321 aircraft and other special-purpose aircraft.

On December 10, 2024, Gia Binh airport project started construction in Xuan Lai commune and Gia Binh town, Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province. The project has an area of ​​about 125 hectares, about 40km from Noi Bai airport.

This is the airport serving the training and combat readiness missions of the Vietnam People's Public Security Air Force. After that, the Government agreed to upgrade Gia Binh airport to become the top airport in the North and share a part of the passengers and cargo with Noi Bai airport.
