Nearly 1,200 teachers were awarded the title of People's Teacher and Excellent Teacher in 2024.

On the morning of November 17, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) chaired and coordinated with the Vietnam Education Trade Union to organize the 16th People's Teacher (PE) and Meritorious Teacher (EM) awarding ceremony and honoring outstanding teachers in 2024.

Honoring outstanding teachers, people's teachers and eminent teachers

On May 30, 1985, the State Council issued a Decree regulating the State honorary titles to be awarded to artists, teachers, and doctors. From 1986 to 2020, through 15 conferrals, the President signed a Decision to confer the titles to 650 People's Teachers and 9,081 Meritorious Artists.

Regarding the 16th award in 2023, Mr. Nguyen Viet Loc - Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel (Ministry of Education and Training) said that the Ministry is the standing body of the Council for awarding the title of People's Teacher and Meritorious Teacher in 2023 and has received 1,225 applications, including 24 applications for People's Teacher and 1,201 applications for Meritorious Teacher, including 33 ethnic minority teachers. Based on current legal regulations, the State Council met, voted, submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration, and submitted to the President.

The President awarded the title of People's Teacher to 21 teachers and the title of Meritorious Teacher to 1,167 teachers.

Up to now, many ministries, departments, branches and localities have organized the awarding of the title of Meritorious Teacher to their affiliated teachers.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son awarded the title of People's Teacher to 21 teachers.

At the ceremony, authorized by the President, the Ministry of Education and Training awarded the title of People's Teacher to 21 teachers from ministries, branches and localities and awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher to 65 teachers under the Ministry of Education and Training.

In addition to the titles of People's Teacher and Meritorious Teacher since 2017, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized the selection of Outstanding Teacher of the Year. After 7 selections of Outstanding Teacher, the Minister of Education and Training signed the decision to award Certificates of Merit to 1,600 teachers.

In 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 2040/QD-BGDDT dated July 31, 2024 on the Regulations for selecting Outstanding Teachers and held every 2 years, implemented from 2024. Mr. Loc said that the Ministry of Education and Training received 252 applications for selecting Outstanding Teachers in 2024. The Council selected 251 Outstanding Teachers.

By 20224, after 8 times of selecting Outstanding Teachers, the Minister of Education and Training signed a decision to award Certificates of Merit to 1,851 teachers.

Mr. Loc said: “There are still many teachers who have not been honored today, but teachers have been quietly and diligently imparting knowledge, inspiring, nurturing personality, and sowing the seeds of the future for generations of students. The Ministry of Education and Training will continue to recognize and promptly encourage teachers and educational administrators across the country who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to the cause of education and training.

Many good signals about policies

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the teaching force continues to receive attention from the Party, State and Government with positive signals about policies to develop the team in terms of quantity and quality. In particular, implementing the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training was authorized to submit and report to the National Assembly at the ongoing 8th session the draft Law on Teachers.

Recognizing and appreciating the contributions of teachers, Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that education is a difficult task, but true education, education with the right ethics, education aiming for high quality, attracting learners, spreading the spirit of creativity and endless learning inspiration to learners is even more difficult. To achieve the title of People's Teacher, Meritorious Teacher, and Outstanding Teacher, teachers have been dedicated and loved their profession, have made many contributions, have overcome difficulties and challenges to express themselves and spread good values.

To successfully carry out the major tasks set out, Minister Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged that the entire education sector must be very determined and must meet many necessary conditions. In particular, the human factor, typically teachers and education managers, plays a particularly important role.

Outstanding teachers, people's teachers, and lecturers will be the core to best promote their experience, intelligence, determination, and creativity, while sharing, spreading, inspiring positivity, and multiplying good things to the community of teachers.

"The titles are recognition and honor for the past, the depth of performance and contribution of teachers, and also expectations and hopes for teachers to continue to shine and contribute to the cause of education development," Minister Nguyen Kim Son told the teaching staff.
