Many teachers predict that the standard scores for some top schools will increase sharply because the score distribution of the three subjects Math, Literature, and Foreign Language is shifting to the right, with many exams scoring 7-9.
Mr. Tran Manh Tung, a Math teacher in Hanoi, assessed that the Math exam kept the same structure as many years ago. This is an advantage for students because it is similar to the types of exercises they have learned and reviewed for; similar to the practice tests they have done.
The basic questions have no new or strange elements, no puzzles. The difficulty level is slightly higher than in 2022.
The test has a good level of differentiation with 85% basic questions; 15% differentiation. Average students can easily get 6-7 points, excellent students about 8-9 points. 9-9.5 points can be a lot but 10 points will also be few, because the last question in the Figure and question 5 require complete and accurate reasoning.
Teacher Tung predicts that this year's Math score will increase by about 0.5 points compared to last year.
With the admission score for grade 10, this teacher predicts that it will increase sharply from 1 - 1.5 points for top schools (about 42 points), the mid-rank schools will increase the score from 0.5 - 1 point and the bottom schools may increase slightly by 0.5 points.

Mr. Tran Duc Hoang, a teacher specializing in 10th grade entrance exam preparation in Hanoi, said that the admission scores for top schools this year increased by at most 1-2 points.
Although this year's exam was assessed by most teachers to be more difficult than last year's, it was only more difficult in a few small points in the questions to challenge candidates who did not get a score of 9.5 or 10. In terms of the questions as a whole, the exam was somewhat easier.
"Therefore, the 10 points for Math and English will be less than last year. However, many candidates will achieve scores of 7, 8, 9, the score distribution will definitely shift to the right. That is the reason why the benchmark scores of top schools can increase sharply by 2 points," said Mr. Hoang.
This teacher is also worried that the entrance exam for grade 10 in Hanoi's public schools has a low level of differentiation between good and excellent students, average and good students, making it difficult to filter out all candidates. This is disadvantageous for middle-ranking high schools.
Ms. Van Thuy Duong, Vice Principal of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (Cau Giay, Hanoi) said that it will be difficult to predict the standard score for grade 10 of each school this year because it depends on the enrollment quota and the exam level.
However, according to this teacher, normally the standard scores of each year of schools will not differ too much to maintain a certain input.
At this school, through 4 mock exams and considering last year's benchmark scores, it shows that candidates who achieve 8 points/subject or higher, even higher, are at a safe level compared to top schools in Hanoi.
According to the plan of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, by July 4 at the latest, Hanoi will announce the candidates' exam scores and from July 8-9, the standard scores will be announced.
Grade 10 admission score = (Math score + Literature score) x 2 + Foreign language score + Priority score. Students who have passed their first choice will not be considered for the following choices. If they fail their first choice, they will be considered for their second and third choices, but must have an admission score 1-2 points higher than the school's standard score.
Regarding the admission principles, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training clearly stipulates that candidates who wish to register for admission to the school will be recruited based on their admission scores from highest to lowest until the quota is filled.
The Department only considers admission for students who have completed all required exams, have not violated exam regulations to the point of having their exam results canceled, and have not had any exams with a score of 0.
According to some secondary school principals, the stress of 10th grade admission will only be concentrated in the middle and top high schools. As for lower-ranked schools, there are still schools with higher admission quotas than the number of students registering for their first choice.

Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that this year's 10th grade entrance exam has adjusted some criteria, aiming for about 60% of students to pass public high schools.
The lack of schools is a very difficult problem today, the industry has strongly advised the leaders of Hanoi City to allocate land in the inner city and urban areas to build schools. When agencies, factories and enterprises moving out of the inner city are still hesitant to hand over land, the city leaders have also directed to implement it soon.
