(NLDO) - The Market Management Department of Quang Binh province has just discovered and seized more than 1 ton of smuggled candy, as the trade of smuggled goods flourishes during Tet.
Quang Binh Market Management Department discovered and seized nearly 1 ton of smuggled cakes of all kinds.
On January 10, Mr. Vu Quang Thang, Director of the Market Management Department of Quang Binh province, said that this agency had just coordinated with the Traffic Police Department of Quang Binh province to detect and handle the case of transporting nearly 1 ton of cakes of unknown origin.
Accordingly, on January 9, on National Highway 1 (through Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district), Market Management Team No. 2 - Market Management Department of Quang Binh province coordinated with the Traffic Police Department to stop and check a truck driven by Mr. Bui Van Dung (in Ia Kha town, Ia Grai district, Gia Lai province).
Upon inspection, the authorities discovered that the vehicle was carrying 950 kg of various cakes, including chocolate-covered rice cakes, yogurt-filled bread, and chocolate-filled chestnut cakes. The language on the packaging was in a foreign language.
Truck Violation
At the time of inspection, Mr. Bui Van Dung could not provide invoices, vouchers and papers related to the delivery and transportation of these goods. Market Management Team No. 2 kept all the infringing evidence for further handling according to the provisions of law. The value of the infringing evidence is estimated at about 70 million VND.
Recently, on December 29, Market Management Team No. 2 also conducted an administrative inspection of a truck driven by Mr. Nguyen Chau Khoa (in Hanh Thuan commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province).
Upon inspection, the shipment was found to include 90 boxes of cushion powder manufactured in Korea and 317 kg of confectionery manufactured abroad. The Director of the Quang Binh Market Management Department has imposed an administrative penalty on Mr. Nguyen Chau Khoa for "Intentionally transporting smuggled goods" with a fine of 30 million VND. The infringing items were confiscated and destroyed with a value of nearly 50 million VND.
Handling 440 cases of smuggling and trade fraud violations
According to the Director of the Market Management Department of Quang Binh province, Vu Quang Thang, in 2024, this agency conducted 681 inspections and checks, handling 440 violations of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
The total value of administrative fines, forced return of illegal profits, proceeds from confiscated goods and the value of the violated property amounted to more than 20 billion VND. Of which, the amount collected for the state budget reached over 11.4 billion VND, exceeding 254% of the assigned target and increasing 125% compared to 2023.
