In November, African swine fever recurred in Ha Tinh with the first outbreak in Nghi Xuan district. To date, the disease has occurred in 39 households in 18 villages in the communes of Cam Duong, Cam Quan, Nam Phuc Thang (Cam Xuyen); Lam Trung Thuy (Duc Tho); Xuan Pho (Nghi Xuan); Tan Lam Huong, Thach Ngoc (Thach Ha) and Trung Luong and Dau Lieu wards (Hong Linh town), causing 163 sick and dead pigs to be destroyed, with a total weight of 12,483 kg.
Ms. Hoang Thi Ngoc Diep, Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) informed that the epidemic occurred in small-scale livestock farms that did not thoroughly implement safe livestock farming measures... It is forecasted that in the coming time, the risk of African swine fever will continue to have complicated developments. The epidemic situation across the country, especially in the provinces of the North Central region, is on the rise.
In Ha Tinh, recent heavy rains have caused many livestock areas and barns to be flooded, polluting the livestock environment. In addition, livestock households have increased their herds to meet the demand during the Lunar New Year; buying, selling and transporting activities have increased... Meanwhile, the African swine fever virus is highly resistant, can survive for a long time in the environment, has a complex transmission route and is difficult to control; there is no specific medicine for the disease.
To respond to the epidemic, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is focusing on inspecting and strictly controlling trading, transportation, slaughtering activities and disinfecting vehicles transporting animals and animal products on main traffic routes, feed, and livestock equipment. Localities have established councils to handle the destruction of sick pigs, ensuring the accuracy of the quantity, volume of destruction, records, and procedures according to regulations; handling the burial pits of sick pigs and surrounding areas to avoid the risk of spreading the epidemic to the environment.

Mr. Nguyen Van Sau - Vice Chairman of Thach Ha District People's Committee said that when the epidemic was detected, the district directed localities (Tan Lam Huong and Thach Ngoc communes) to carry out destruction work according to regulations; organize disinfection of barn areas; set up guard posts and disinfect means of transport entering and leaving the epidemic area. At the same time, it directed localities to resolutely implement epidemic prevention and control work. Through actual inspections at livestock households in the epidemic area, it was shown that people complied with and proactively implemented disinfection and sterilization solutions.

In addition, strictly inspect, control, and manage the trading, slaughtering, and transportation of animals and animal products in the area; strictly prohibit the import of livestock from other provinces to slaughterhouses without proper records and procedures; strictly handle violations.
