These days, livestock farmers in localities are actively taking care of their livestock and poultry (GSGC) to prepare for sale to serve the year-end market and the 2025 Lunar New Year. To limit risks in production and ensure food supply, the agricultural sector recommends that livestock farmers proactively and seriously implement disease prevention and control measures.

Strengthening animal disease prevention and control in the last months of the year People of Minh Tien commune (Ngoc Lac) spray disinfectant around livestock barns.

Currently, the weather is changing unfavorably, creating favorable conditions for animal pathogens to develop and spread. Meanwhile, African swine fever is still complicated in localities across the country, including provinces bordering Thanh Hoa such as Son La, Hoa Binh... Recently, many localities in the province have been affected by rain and floods, causing the situation of GSGC being washed away, the environment being affected... making the risk of disease outbreak and spread very high. In addition, the end of the year is the time when the demand for transportation, slaughter, and consumption of animals and animal products increases sharply to meet the consumption needs of people before, during and after Tet. Although Thanh Hoa province has not had any dangerous epidemics in the past, in order to proactively prevent and control them, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested localities to absolutely not be subjective or negligent; seriously implement measures to protect livestock.

As a locality with a large livestock herd, after the flood, Trieu Son district quickly directed communes and towns to urgently carry out the second month of sanitation, disinfection, environmental sterilization, and disease prevention in 2024. At the same time, continue to direct the second vaccination of the year and supplementary vaccination for livestock. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phuong, Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Trieu Son district, said: "The communes and towns have reviewed the total herd to manage vaccination work. In addition, they have instructed livestock households to strictly implement biosafety measures, clean livestock barns, disinfect with lime powder, chemicals... especially for pig farms, it is necessary to strictly control workers entering and leaving the breeding area, strictly implement disease prevention and control measures. The communes and towns have also deployed disease surveillance, established rapid response teams, prepared adequate means and materials... to ensure that they fully meet the needs of timely response to contain and extinguish outbreaks as soon as they occur in a small area; strengthen the veterinary professional force at all levels to meet the requirements of disease prevention and control in the area. Along with measures to care for, disinfect, sterilize and prevent cold for livestock, the district is continuing to direct the communes and towns to strengthen inspection and strictly control trading activities, transport and slaughter GSGC in the area".

In addition to the timely guidance of sectors and localities, farmers have also gained a lot of experience in disease prevention and control, especially in the last months of the year. Ms. Doan Thi Dung, Minh Tien commune (Ngoc Lac), who is currently raising pigs, said: "In recent days, information about African swine fever across the country has made me extremely worried. I have increased the cleaning of barns, sprayed disinfectants, disinfected, and not allowed strangers to enter the farm without disinfection. I have raised animals in a biosafety direction, focusing on adding more types of

Add vitamins to the diet to increase the resistance of the pig herd; vaccinate fully... In addition, monitor the livestock herd to detect abnormalities and promptly notify veterinary staff.

With a high determination to complete the task in 2024, in the last months of the year, along with completing the second vaccination, localities need to focus on seriously implementing disease prevention and control measures on the GSGC herd. Especially, for African swine fever, localities need to focus on assigning forces to deploy disease surveillance; fully prepare means, disinfectants, lime powder... to respond promptly, extinguish outbreaks as soon as they occur in a small area; promote biosafety farming. In addition, livestock farmers need to raise awareness of disease prevention, clean barns, fully vaccinate, do not sell, transport GSGC and diseased products...
