VnExpressVnExpress19/10/2023

Half of the Top 10 businesses paying the most taxes last year were banks, the rest were Viettel, PVGas, Mobile World and 3 foreign companies.

According to statistics from the General Department of Taxation, in the list of highest tax payers in 2022, the banking group occupies an overwhelming position.

Specifically, in the top 10, there are 5 banks that pay the most taxes. In the top 20, there are 8 banks appearing in the list, including VPBank, Vietcombank, BIDV, MB, VietinBank, Techcombank, ACB, Sacombank.

2022 is a year of "peak profits" for banks, with more than 20 banks reporting record profits. The entire industry generated more than $11.5 billion in profits this year thanks to strong credit growth and reduced provisioning.

Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VPBank) is also the enterprise paying the most taxes in 2022. In the past year alone, this bank's profit increased sharply thanks to extraordinary income from selling shares of a financial company. Accordingly, VPBank's consolidated pre-tax profit was more than VND 21,000 billion with corporate income tax arising in 2022 being VND 4,900 billion.

The remaining 4 enterprises in the top 5 highest tax payers are Viettel, Honda Vietnam, Vietcombank and Agribank, respectively.

According to statistics, half of the top 20 enterprises paying the most taxes in 2022 are domestic enterprises that have been listed on the stock exchange, including VPBank, Vietcombank, BIDV, MB, Mobile World, VietinBank, Techcombank, ACB, Vinamilk, Sacombank. The rest are a group of enterprises that have not been listed but have made great contributions such as Viettel, Agribank, PV Gas, VNPT and Gia Lam Urban Development and Investment Company Limited.

In addition, the top tax-paying enterprises also include foreign representatives such as Honda Vietnam, Samsung Thai Nguyen, Samsung Vietnam, Unilever Vietnam and Heineken Vietnam.

The General Department of Taxation also said that there are 1,000 enterprises contributing 58% to the total corporate income tax revenue. Of these, about 300 names have been on this list for many years.

According to the explanation of the representative of the General Department of Taxation, this is a list calculated based on the actual tax paid in 2022, which may include final tax from 2021, a part of provisional tax paid in 2022 and other additional and arising taxes (if any).

Some businesses temporarily paid more taxes in 2022 than they had to pay. Some increased capital, expanded business operations, increased operational efficiency, leading to increased revenue or officially had revenue upon project completion and construction acceptance. In addition, some businesses paid large taxes due to irregular activities such as real estate transfer, capital transfer, other activities, etc.
