Hon Tau is a mountain range bordering Duy Xuyen, Nong Son and Que Son districts, Quang Nam province, consisting of many rugged mountain ranges. Since 1967, the Quang Da Special Zone Party Committee chose this place as a revolutionary base in the resistance war against the US, which lasted until 1975.

This place is also the place to build inner-city bases, building springboards to set foot in Da Nang, Hoi An. Hon Tau Mountain has no old forests, no large caves, but along the crevices there are many undulating rocks that are quite dangerous, there are caves and crevices next to clear water that can be used to temporarily shelter from the sun and rain, to hide food, weapons, and to avoid bombs and artillery.

When the agencies of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee and the Quang Da Provincial Party Committee (from the end of 1967, the Quang Da Special Zone Party Committee) moved to Hon Tau, the subordinate agencies and units also followed, usually located lower, 45 minutes to 1 hour walk from the agencies of the Provincial Party Committee and the Special Zone Party Committee. Agencies such as Organization, Propaganda, Military Affairs, Political Struggle, Youth, Women, Front, Farmers' Association, Postal Service... were located about 30 minutes walk from each other.

In the historic spring of 1975, comrade Vo Chi Cong, Secretary of Zone 5 Party Committee, and comrade Ho Nghinh, former Secretary of Quang Da Special Zone Party Committee, member of the Standing Committee of Zone Party Committee, left Tra My base to command strong attacks against the enemy.

On that journey, they stopped at Hon Tau before continuing to the plains and liberating Da Nang. On March 24, 1975, when Tam Ky town of Quang Nam had just been liberated, comrade Tran Than, Secretary of the Quang Da Special Zone Party Committee, and comrades in the Standing Committee of the Special Zone Party Committee held a meeting at Hon Tau to deploy the 1975 Spring Campaign. On March 29, 1975, the march began from Hon Tau base, leading to the victory of liberating Da Nang city at noon of the same day.

This was where many important meetings were held to plan strategies and lead the revolutionary movement during the most difficult period of the resistance war.
