New look in Kim Dong advanced rural commune

Completing the advanced NTM criteria contributes to increasing people's income, reducing the poverty rate, improving people's cultural and spiritual life, and maintaining security and order.

Coming to Kim Dong commune today, walking on the concrete roads stretching to the alleys and hamlets, what we felt most clearly was the bright-green-clean-beautiful countryside scenery, the new, spacious and solid houses built close together. Happiness is present in every home, road, hamlet, along with the excitement of 1,160 households here. That is the result that the advanced NTM in Kim Dong brings.

As a commune located in the coastal alluvial area, it is often affected by natural disasters that affect socio-economic development and people's lives. In the face of difficulties, the Party Committee and People of Kim Dong commune always strive, unite, be dynamic, creative, and strive to rise up.

Comrade Tran Duc Thuan, Secretary of the Kim Dong Commune Party Committee, said: Building a new rural area is a key and central task, with only a starting point, no end point. Therefore, after being recognized as a commune meeting the new rural standards in 2014, Kim Dong continued to implement many solutions to maintain and improve the quality and effectiveness of the new rural criteria. Strengthening the Steering Committee, issuing decisions and projects on building advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas. At the same time, strengthening propaganda, mobilization, inspection, supervision, and effectively implementing the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas", the campaign "Building families of 5 no's, 3 cleans".

Receiving attention from all levels, Kim Dong commune has mobilized and integrated resources, maximized socialized capital and promoted the role of the people as the main subject to renovate and upgrade infrastructure, creating a new rural appearance.

By December 2023, the commune had met 19/19 criteria and was recognized as a commune meeting advanced new rural standards. Of which, 3/6 residential areas met the standards of "Model New Rural Residential Area". The rural appearance in the commune is increasingly improving. Average income reached 69.5 million VND/person/year; the multidimensional poverty rate decreased to 0.34%; the rate of households with permanent or semi-permanent houses reached over 95%; the locality no longer has temporary or dilapidated houses.

New look in Kim Dong advanced rural commune — The dragon fruit growing model of Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, hamlet 6, has high economic efficiency.

In economic development, taking advantage of the flat terrain, with relatively favorable natural conditions for developing the marine economy and aquaculture, Kim Dong has planned an aquaculture area of 431 hectares, developing key aquaculture products with high economic value such as: white-leg shrimp, tiger shrimp, clams, oysters, and loach. Actively mobilizing people to promote the application of high technology and digital transformation in production and product consumption.

The commune currently has 45 high-tech aquaculture facilities and 787 households raising aquatic products according to the extensive model. The total annual aquatic product output reaches over 3,600 tons. Livestock and poultry farming is maintained and developed, with the output of live pigs reaching 160 tons; cows reaching 8 tons; and poultry flocks reaching 271 tons. The commune has 2 products that have achieved 3-star OCOP certification: "Thuy Hue whiteleg shrimp" and "Thuy Hue cartilaginous loach".

Along with developing the marine economy, the commune encourages the development of small-scale industries such as carpentry, mechanics serving agriculture, construction, garment, processing, weaving, exploiting goods sources from enterprises inside and outside the area, creating jobs for people. The commune has 40 people going abroad to work.

In addition to solutions to promote economic development, investment in completing traffic infrastructure is always of local concern. Currently, most of the main roads in the fields and alleys are hardened and concreted, have drainage ditches, signs, speed bumps, lighting, trees, flower beds... to meet the needs of the people, while ensuring a bright-green-clean-beautiful landscape. Irrigation works are regularly repaired and upgraded, ensuring active water supply and drainage, meeting the requirements of natural disaster prevention and control and the production needs of the people. 100% of households in the area have access to electricity, have toilets, bathrooms, and hygienic water tanks.

Along with that, Kim Dong also focuses resources on investing in the synchronous construction of cultural institutions. Currently, the commune has a central cultural house with an area of 525m2, equipped with a bookcase with over 200 books and full equipment to serve local activities. 100% of villages and hamlets have cultural houses and standard sports areas to meet the needs of research, study, meetings, cultural activities, and sports of the community. Every year, 100% of hamlets are recognized as "Cultural Residential Areas", 85-90% of households achieve the title of cultural families.

It can be seen that after 9 years of implementing the advanced new rural construction program, Kim Dong commune has had a clear and comprehensive change, the face of the new rural area has changed positively, and people's awareness has been raised. Mr. Dinh Van Son, a parishioner in hamlet 2, Kim Dong commune shared: We are very excited because the new rural area helps our people receive a lot of attention from the Party and the State. Our children are able to study and receive health care in spacious facilities. Wide roads, clean and beautiful landscapes, and entertainment areas help our people enhance the spirit of solidarity, sharing and helping each other.
