Taking advantage of the soil and climate, in recent years, Chi Dam commune, Doan Hung district has actively shifted its economic structure and crops towards renovating mixed gardens, expanding the area of ​​specialty grapefruit cultivation, forming concentrated commodity production areas, combining with promoting the application of science and technology in planting, caring for, and harvesting grapefruit. At the same time, encouraging the development of the forest product processing industry, trade, and services, both meeting the needs of consumption and production and contributing to job creation and increasing income for people.

Focus on caring for specialty grapefruit, ensuring productivity and quality, contributing to increasing income for people in Chi Dam commune.

Grapefruit is identified as one of the main crops of the commune with an area of ​​127.4 hectares, of which 106 hectares have been harvested, with an estimated yield of 18 tons/ha, output of 1,908 tons, and a value of 78 billion VND. To increase the economic value of this crop, in the 2020-2025 term, the commune has identified improving the efficiency and brand value of the national geographical indication of Chi Dam specialty grapefruit as one of the three breakthroughs of the locality.

On that basis, on the one hand, the commune encourages and mobilizes people to improve mixed garden land, change the purpose of crops to grow grapefruit, on the other hand, innovate production organization, promote the role of cooperatives, cooperative groups, farms, focus on safe production along with promotion, expand the consumption market. Chi Dam specialty grapefruit has achieved 4-star OCOP, is positively received by the market, and is present in many supermarkets and stalls in and outside the province.

With a rice growing area of ​​396 hectares, the commune focuses on directing people to produce according to the crop calendar, promoting mechanization in all stages; focusing on growing hybrid rice varieties, forming high-quality rice fields, with high productivity and economic value. Notably, the commune has directed the planning and initial successful construction of the Phuong Hung concentrated production field with an area of ​​30 hectares. In livestock farming, the total herd of cattle and poultry has been maintained stably; people have gradually shifted from small-scale farming to household and concentrated farms, providing more stable income.

Trade, service and handicraft activities in the commune have developed with many diverse forms, increasingly meeting the needs of the people, contributing to the transformation of the economic structure towards gradually increasing the proportion of service and handicraft industries, successfully implementing Resolution No. 11-NQ/DU, dated June 14, 2021 of the Commune Party Committee on agricultural production, industry - handicrafts, trade and services into concentrated areas in a sustainable direction for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030.

Households engaged in wood production, processing, and service business are facilitated to expand their production scale and access loans for economic development. Many production households have invested in modern machinery, equipment, and production lines to increase productivity, economic efficiency, and protect the environment. Currently, the commune has 558 production and business establishments.

Manufacturing industries such as garments, construction materials, agricultural and forestry processing have developed, creating jobs for hundreds of local workers with stable incomes. Services and trade have developed in a diverse and rich way, the turnover of goods in the commune has increased every year, and essential goods are sufficient to meet the consumption needs of the people in the commune and the region.

Comrade Nguyen Van Han - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "The economic restructuring in the right direction has brought about clear results. The average income per capita of the commune reached over 53 million VND/year, the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved and enhanced. The movement to build model new rural areas and advanced new rural areas has many advantages in mobilizing capital from the people. Up to now, on average, all residential areas have achieved 11-13/14 criteria for model new rural residential areas, of which Phuong Hung 1 and Phuong Hung 2 have achieved model new rural areas. Chi Dam has basically completed the criteria of an advanced new rural commune".

In the coming time, the locality will continue to focus on exploiting potentials and advantages; using resources reasonably and effectively for socio-economic development. In the development of agriculture, forestry and fishery, the commune will promote development towards commodity production; strengthen value chain linkages towards sustainability, quality, safety and efficiency; mobilize resources, combine many programs and projects to invest in completing essential infrastructure; focus on effectively directing the model of concentrated production fields for replication. Actively attract investment capital from programs and projects; expand and develop trade, small-scale handicraft production, agricultural and forestry processing, wood processing, develop industries and comprehensive services to attract workers...
