Fresh squid
During the calm sea season, boats just arriving at coastal areas such as Nhon Ly commune, Nhon Hai commune (Quy Nhon city); Cat Hai commune, Cat Tien town (Phu Cat)... are full of fresh squid, as small as a little finger. This type of squid is scooped up by fishermen, steamed right at the wharf to retain its sweetness and freshness, then sold to locals and tourists.
Fresh squid this season is cheap, easy to buy, soft meat, rich sweet taste, attractive. One of the most popular ways to prepare it is to fry it. The squid is left whole, without removing the gall bladder, creating a unique flavor, rolled in a thin layer of flour and fried until golden brown. When eating, dip it in spicy fish sauce, add some Vietnamese coriander and you have a great "rice-friendly" dish.
In addition, steamed or boiled squid mixed with salad is also a favorite dish of Binh Dinh people. Squid combined with young green papaya salad, shredded mango, various herbs, and a strong fish sauce, creates a simple dish with a rich taste of the sea.
